    hi

maybe i have been lucky as i have been to barcelona 5 times and stayed in apartments booked from the net and never had any trouble

I have also stayed at the big block of apartment right on the ramblas right by the square i mentioned above any ideas what that place is called (i must remeber to take note of these things but you know what its like)

what about an apartment away from the ramblas but still near a few eating place and a couple of good bars

    cheers

I'd recommend doing a search on Venere - really helpful website with lots of good maps/reviews, and reasonable prices too (which you also don't have to pay in advance)
PM me if you want a 4% discount code.

I think it's a good idea to check out this website even if you find hotels cheaper elsewhere (also check out hotelscomparison.com), as the descriptions and maps are generally better than other sites in my opinion.

    Hope that helps

PS - I'm not connected to this website in any way, and I don't gain anything from this post. I also found the discount code on another forum.

John, I'm pretty sure the appartment above the pub was in Placa Joaquim Xirau.

Area - depends if you want to be within walking distance of everything, and what kind of nightlife you want! Raval, Gotico (old city), Born are all central, though Gotico can be noisy at weekends. A lot of people like Gracia (short metro ride from centre), which has lots of classy bars, shops and restaurants.

No idea about hotels, I'm afraid, never stayed in one!

The metro/train line from the airport and around Barcelona is excellent...cheap and easy to understand. You are likely to get a far better value hotel/apartment at one of the resorts ..Sitges, Blanes, Malgrat, Loret, Santa Susannah etc than in Barcelona itself. Some of the deals off-season (including June are superb). I usually do this and travel in and out to Barcelona on the train daily.

John, at that hour my guide says you will have to get the local bus 106 (apparently, the trains and airport buses aren't running at midnight). Try the airport website for more up-to-date info, it may well have changed. A taxi may be worth it if there are enough of you.

The metro runs until 2am Fri, and all night Sat, but it is a local train that goes out to the airport, not the metro.

I and about 10 friends/random people are going to Barcelona on 21st June.

Its the festival of the solstice that weekend.

    Fireworks, bonfires and parties everywhere.

    Should be a sight/experience.

We changed our dates to these when we found out what was happening.

Have a google/wiki and see what you think.

Do you mean Barceloneta, near the beach?

If so, great if you want to be near the beach, again possibly a bit noisy at night if you're really close. Bit of a walk to the centre, but plenty of buses.
