Annoyed by an eBay noob

callansdad wrote:I regularly buy and sell on Ebay. I always send my buyers and email thanking them on fast payment and telling them that I've sent the item. If I've sold an item and not checked Ebay till night then I send an email telling them that I hadn't checked ebay and there item will be posted the next day.
I think this is really important as I yet have never received an email from a seller telling me that the item is posted. In the past i've had to wait 17 days to get an item that i bought. An nice quick email would have put my mind at ease.
The above is more the spirit of ebay me thinks. Won and paid via paypal on Monday. Still no acknowledgement of receipt of my cash or subsequent emails and of course no delivery. Infuriatng as I paid a premium for post and packaging which was supposed to be 48hrs. There are certain standards that on should reasonably expect. Describing shipping as Parcelforce 48 hours should mean just that.Do you make things happen, watch things happen, or just wonder, what happened?0 -

I don't think that's odd at all - perfectly sensible!
I often send stuff out when the cheque arrives with me if it's less than a tenner - I've never had a problem arising from it. If their cheque bounces, they're charged at least £25 for it, and cancelling a cheque costs about a fiver, if not more. I'd probably think twice about it if they asked me to send it before it'd cleared though...0 -

Just my own opinion. I only sell on ebay for fun (I tend to regard it as an onlinr car boot sale) and if a cheque's for less than a certain amount I don't bother about worrying if it will clear or not providing the buyer has a good track record with ebay previously. I won't take paypal because it's not wirth it at the level of business I do:beer:Gwlad heb iaith, gwlad heb galon0 -
When you click 'mark as dispached' in 'my ebay' section do buyers at their end see this-and therefore know their item is on its way? Or is it just for your own reference?
Just wondering as people have commented on how they email buyers to notify them once you've posted.0 -

I may be wrong but I was under the impression that it was only for your own reference. Not buying unnecessary toiletries 2024 26/53 UU, 25 IN0 -

If you sign up for Selling Manager (it's free), you get a load more options than the basic My eBay options. There are a number of editable email templates to send to buyers, one of which is a dispatch notification.Everyone loves Magical Trevor.

I've sold hundreds of items in the past & never waited for a cheque to clear & haven't ever had a problem with payment. As a buyer I do find it a bit off putting when a seller doesn't accept Paypal or Nochex & I have to send a cheque for a piddling amount such as £2 or £3 & they wait for the cheque to clear before posting item. Surely sellers can see by your feedback that you are to be trusted, especially when it's around 400 positives? I can understand for higher amounts they may be wary, or if a buyer has very low feedback. It makes me reluctant to shop with them again, so they lose out on possible future sales there. The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0 -
I wouldn't think they'd do it on purpose, but it's possible to write a cheque before having all the funds in your account. Not that I ever do, obviously *cough cough* Any amount of money is important to me, even a pound, espeically if it's to cover fees, p&p etc. I don't see why I should send my item out before I have any money for it. If they dont want to wait, they should use Paypal
And I naturally don't trust people :rotfl:
Besides, I hardly ever sell on ebay, so the chance of my having repeat customers is non existent.0 -
I still tend to send things out before cheques clear for funds but I don't really get many cheques any more as I try to discourage people from using them. I've had so many bounce or get reversed from my account that it just isn't worth the hassle.
However, if I have a newbie or someone with poor feedback I might just wait 3 days or so for a cheque to clear for funds and then send it out, just so I have an idea that it isn't going to bounce for lack of funds. As has already been said if someone wants something urgently then they can use paypal.
Personally I have also found that cheque payers are the most impatient, I routinely get asked whether the item has been sent even before I get the cheque!
