Im trying over the last few days to get myself motivated, its sink or swim time

had a huge clearout/declutter just trying to convince the ex to take everything to the tip (its mainly junk anything good has been freecycled), had a hugely bad and very non os day yesterday, ordering new matress from catalogues are not a great idea as if they dont fit the bed there non returnable so it was either waste them or buy bunks for my boys 2/3 years earlier than planned.

today so far so good, ive cleaned out the kitchen cupboard, tided the kitchen checked the fridge and not given ion to the boys demands for biscuits.
just need to sort my breadmaker before i pop into town i need to sort some form of meal plans even for now if its for the next week, tonight will be beans on toast (hm bread) and i like the idea of a fruit crumble.

my must for tonight is my ironing and my blanket box which is full of general all sorts.

fizzel, this post sounds familiar :D but I know you have fell off before and got back on without too much hassle, comes natural to some!

With the housing issues, I would suggest making that a priority, a roof over the boys head is the most important. Getting back on the 'os wagon' I think would definately come after that for me. Contact your local MP, council, citizens advice and anywhere that anyone might be able to help get something sorted for the boys. After having problems myself I've also had no choice but to take a privately rented house, it's costing me a lot but just the route I ended up having to go down to put a roof over the boys heads.
One day I might be more organised...........

  • Hello Frizzel

Be kind to yourself, you have had a rough time over the last year or more. The wagon is designed to get back on again. It takes time to heal, take life a day at a time. Praise yourself for your small achievements every day.

  • It sounds to me like for someone a bit down you have done a huge amount already. I don't think you need us to get you back on the OS bandwagon cos I think you've already done it :) You've accomplished a huge amount in the last few days, don't be so down on yourself. I agree with the others, if you get the food end sorted out the rest will feel easier. I know myself that if I eat properly everything else starts to fall into place. Since it sounds like you're in an organising frame of mind it might be worth inventorying your food stash and alongside this making a list of essentials you need so you can get around to an online shop at some stage. Go easy on yourself with food planning and try to make simple warming things like stews and shepherd's pie - this will take you through the first week...

Lots of luck though and really don't be so hard on yourself. You're getting there!
  • Today I was out shopping and I went into M&S simply food in the village, for the first time in AGES. I only went in to see how much the Christmas pudding cheesecake is (the one on the Michael Parkinson advert) and to get a bottle of flavoured water because I was really thirsty but I became entranced by all the Christmas food and spent about an hour walking around. I like cooking from scratch and doing stuff the OS way, but today in M&S I was really really tempted, for the first time ever, to get a big trolley and buy up all the nice prepared Christmas stuff and the lovely choc and other treats. All the way home I kept thinking about it and I did a quick reckoning of how much it would cost me - I reckoned that I wouldn't get much change out of £300 for stuff for three days (have visitors coming on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day so need lots of stuff and the turkey crown was £43:eek: !). I have reckoned on spending £100 for all my Christmas grocery shopping, including the turkey and a piece of ham, plus treats and other stuff, but I thought the stuff in M&S looked so lovely that I even considered (and haven't yet discounted the idea) of using my credit card and just buying everything, even though I know it is ridiculously expensive and self indulgent. What would you do? - I need serious persuading!

  • I quite often use M&S and others for ideas. I cook for the freezer quite a bit and look at the ready meals to see what they are offering and also to see what kinds of flavouring they use. (Obviously not MSG etc)

When I do find one I note the price and then see how much cheaper I can make it. I also know what has gone into it!
  • Hi Jane - mmm so what will you do?? I had to reel it in as we were in great danger of going into the red. I canceled Abel and Cole and all the goodies I had lined up. You are right FR Turkey is so expensive this year - the A&C crown was about £45. Soooo I went back to totally OS. I swopped to frozen veg (2 of us so no waste) and a frozen turkey. I think the A&C Christmas would have been about £150 so saved shed loads. I'm not very well at the moment so instead of the usual making bread sauce etc etc I have a packet! But, I will do other stuff. The Hairy Bikers cheese straws for instance fab - went straight into the kitchen and made some. Its only one day - so don't get too stressed out - could you perhaps ask your guests to bring the pudding or something? I stood in front of a lady in M&S with her trolley full of shopping, - (she looked fab by the way), and just knew most of it would be thrown away - such a shame. Have a great one whatever you decide to do.

I saw a TV show advertised a prize of £10,000 M & S vouchers or something like. I was in heaven just thinking well for a whole Year I could eat nice food, have wine once a week and store cupboard things and get clothes and gifts and all kinds.. Mind you those vouchers would prob last me a lot lot longer..
