It is not illegal to open another persons mail unless you intend to commit fraud - this is frequently incorrectly posted

No, they're only interested in your name, not your title.0

I'm not sure that is correct unless the maiden name and married is the same. No, they're only interested in your name, not your title.
The bank could be found guilty of conversion if found that the cheque was indeed meant for a real Miss not Mrs.
If it is for a large amount I would get it amended.
To take your reasoning further could you play a cheque made payable to Mr into an account in the name of Miss?
If not why not?0 -
Does it have your first name and surname on the cheque or just initial and surname.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
I have been with the Co Op for nearly 20 years and am a Miss. I sometimes get cheques in the name of Mrs. They've never refused one ever.0

You shouldn't have a problem. Chances are the cashier will just glance at it and won't even notice.0

People can give you whatever title they like, it does't change the fact of who you are and therefore I don't think it should have any effect.0

The title shouldn't actually be on the cheque at all, just the initial and surname is the correct format.0

Actually you should put the full names of the person on the cheque if possible including title as there is less chance of fraud if you lose the cheque or it gets intercepted in the post.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

It's true that putting the full forename may help avoid confusion, esp if there are two people with the same initial in the household, nevertheless the basic requirement is just initial and surname.Actually you should put the full names of the person on the cheque if possible including title as there is less chance of fraud if you lose the cheque or it gets intercepted in the post.0
