A quick note about Ruth...

.... but seriously, when you are presenting a prime time television programme you are going to be judged on your wardrobe and your presentation. It wouldn't have been that hard to get clothes that fitted her well instead of one that is obviously not suitable for her?
You're presenting a whole image, so clothes count.I was distracted immediately by her attire and I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

Hey if you really wanna critizise (can't spell today!) then have a go about what I was wearing! warm it may have been but certainly made me look fat! oh and Ruth isn't the one with the final say on her outfits... so actually you're moaning at the wrong person!
personally I still don't see what the problem was with the outfit, but then thats just meDFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Sorry, I thought the presenters had a choice in what they would be wearing on camera.
Her outfit just did not suit her, it made her look short as the skirt was too high up and the blouse was too small, my eyes immediately caught on that and was turned off by it.
Say what you like about people being shallow, but if you want someone to listen to you, make sure they will be paying attention to what you're saying instead of mentally ogling or putting down your choice of clothes!
Just my 2pennies worth
edit to add: I would say the same thing about other presenters who were as badly dressed, not just specifically picking on her as martin's co-presenter.0 -
the first thing i thought when I watched this weeks show was she shouldn't be wearing those trousers with that blouse. Ruth needs to get that bloke who dose beat the stylist on this morning to help her. but she seems a lovely girl and I prefer listening to her than martin. ( I do worship you martin) but I'm finding that his enthusiastic shouting is starting to get on my nerves abit. and wonder if he can actually talk with a normal tone. I know it's only because he cares about his cause but if he could just tone it down a little bit it would be easier to watch the programme.HOW MUCH ?0

I think it's such a shame that with all the important issues brought up on It Pays To Watch, the one that some people want to talk about is what the female presenter was wearing.
Is it because she's a woman that what we judge her primarily on appearance - rather than listen to what she's saying, or appreciate how good she is as what she's been hired to do?
Wouldn't it be kind of inappropriate for the presenter of a programme about moneysaving to treat it as a fashion parade and display conspicuous consumption in the form of ever-changing glamorous or designer outfits?
Ruth is a serious journalist and presenter - not a non speaking "model in a sparkly dress" from The Price Is Right!Maybe when Martin is "going off on one" she should gesture towards him in that Anthea Redfern classic gameshow style "Look - a washer & dryer!" pose?
This kind of focus on what a woman on the telly "should" look like is the reason why Trevor McDonald fronts News at Ten at 69 but his co-presenter is 30 years younger.
Female newsreaders are retired in their 40s or when they stop looking like this:

I'm not anti fashion. (I know enough to know that Ruth's high waisted pencil skirt is very "in" right now.) I just don't understand how someone's clothes and looks have become the most important thing about them.
Some of the few times that someone's clothes have affected how I feel about what they're saying are situations such as when a rock star in £1000 leather trousers and a £500 shirt is lecturing us about world poverty, or a newsreader or magazine show presenter is making sad faces about how terrible it is that we have sweatshops in the world - when yesterday they were proclaiming their love of Primark, either on tv or in a magazine or newspaper
I am really glad that Martin and Ruth don't seem to suffer from this sort of hypocrisy.
I'm also glad that I'm not on the telly and having holes picked in me!

Hi Jacks xxx - we meet again.
Yet again your comments are right on the button. I read those frankly spiteful comments about Ruth and thought they were completely out of order. I wish I'd spoken up at the time but decided to leave the naysayers to it. I feel like a coward now.
Beats me why women (and it was women in the comments I read) have to beat up on each other like that. Perhaps it just boils down to jealousy?
But, whatever, Ruth's superb and has a real twinkle in her eye. Keep doing what you're doing. Some of us DO appreciate you!Hired!0 -
