yes i know, sorry. this is the kind of weird thing my job requires me to find sometimes. if anyone pms me i will give them the email of the production company to contact. they can then check this is a bona fide company. think we may have found someone now anyway....

Def worth getting this done. One of my girls is a rescue and she had such terrible anal glands we had to have them removed (I really couldn't stomach the vets on a Saturday morning with a hangover when she was having them expressed!). Poor little thing has been left with some rather embarrasing bulges of skin around her botty now...makes people point and stare :(

Thank heavens we don't have that trouble with the other hound....now if only I could stop her being a womble and clearing up after everyone else in the park I'd be sorted!!

Thought it worth pointing out the following to all.

I have been advised in the past by my vet, that most vets will only consider removal of anal glands as a last resort as there is a risk of the surgery leaving the dog faecaly incontinent!!! They would be, after all, cutting through the muscular ring of your dogs anus!!!

Basically, unless your dog is having repeated problems with blocked glands, infections, abcesses etc, then I'm afraid a regular rubber glove job may be the order!

    How can it be spam?

A new poster, makes two totally unrelated posts on the forums and you decide it spam?

The link the poster has posted leads to some very useful information on how to deal with anal gland problems without rushing to surgery

Wiki states "Spam is the use of electronic messaging systems (including most broadcast media, digital delivery systems) to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately."

Can I revive this post please!
I've been to the vets today as my 9 year old Dalmatian has been constantly licking her rear end for a few days and after googling it I thought her anal glands needed emptying.
The vet said it was and tried to empty them. My poor dog was screaming in agony and the vet was surprised to feel the sacs were not full and all she got out was blood.
She's put my dog on a course of antibiotics as she said it might be an infection.....but has told me that at her age you can't rule out cancer.
I'm desperately hoping it's just an infection but she did have a small lump removed from her toe last year, which I didn't want analysed as I thought I'd rather carry on as normal rather than thinking she was under a death sentence. I've obviously been keeping a closer eye on her since though.
She's showing no other symptoms other than the constant licking.
Anyone else's dog had this problem?

My last dog used to get this same trouble. My vet would do a full health check when my dog had his boosters, free of charge, and I always asked him to do the anal glands while he was at it.

The stench was SOOOO horrendous though...I'd happily pay to get the vet to deal with it!

I'm sorry, I perhaps didn't make myself clear.
I really wanted to know if anyone's dog was found to have more serious problems when they went in to have their glands emptied.
