Comodo firewall question

I'm running Vista Home Basic on my new Dell and would like to download a decent free two-way firewall.
Of the top two in this table:
http://www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-tests-results.php#firewalls-ratings
I can't use the Online Armor product as it's not Vista compatible, so here's the question...
As regards the Comodo software, my Dell already comes with a basic firewall as part of the McAfee 'introductory' (i.e. temporary) package. Can I download and run Comodo alongside it or are there good reasons not to?
Can any clever person out there help?

No - don't run them together! Switch off / disable the McAfee firewall, then uninstall itcompletely first.
Then install and run Comodo.
Running them both together will cause all manner of problems and issues, just like if you ran two anti-virus products together.0 -
Good advice from isofa. Download Crap Cleaner and remove all trace of that McAfee junk.0

Thanks, you guys.
CC, I take it, can remove all the McAfee stuff from the system, then?0 -

Download CC, then use "Tools" to remove McAfee, then "Issues" to clean-up.Founder member MSE Jet Airways Mile High Club

Ok folks. Having downloaded CCleaner and gone to 'tools', clicking on McAfee security centre followed by 'delete' gets me the following message:
'This will remove the uninstall entry from the register. It will not uninstall the application. Are you sure you want to do this?'
Where do I go from here, please?
A delete option for the McAfee appears to exist via the start menu. Should I simply use that?0 -
Have a look here at the McAfee website in relation to how to remove its products
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=4105
Summerised here
Windows Vista
Click Start, Search, type Programs and Features, and click Go.
Double-click Programs and Features.
Select the McAfee SecurityCenter product.
Click Uninstall and follow the steps provided.
Step 2 - Download and run MCPR.exe
Download the removal tool from:
http://download.mcafee.com/products/licensed/cust_support_patches/MCPR.exe
Click Save and save the file to a folder on your computer.
Navigate to the folder where the file was saved.
Make sure all McAfee windows are closed.
Double-click MCPR.exe to run the removal tool.
Note: Windows Vista users must right-click MCPR.exe and select Run as Administrator.
Restart your computer after receiving the message CleanUp Successful.
Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until the system is restarted.
If the message Cleanup Unsuccessful is displayed, follow the steps below to view and save your MCPR log files for analysis by Technical Support.0 -
Have you got an AV and anti spyware package on, apart from Mcafee? I'd make sure you have one installed before zapping Mcafee. I found the latest version of comodo a pita, like all personal firewalls nowadays, it is getting bloated, buggy, hard to navigate, and annoying.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

Yep I have AVG, Spybot SD, Ad-aware.
The removal process as outlined by Reluctant Spender sounds damned complicated to a novice like me.0 -
First stop the firewall. And remove the McAfee components listed in your Start > Settings > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. (That's from XP, Vista has a similar set of controls).
You may have to restart a couple of times if there are several McAfee items to remove - you'll be prompted.
Sometimes (almost always!) McAfee leaves more junk all over the place on your system after a removal, that's where a tool like CCleaner comes in handy.0 -
