  • I also live in Hull, well just to the east in a village called Thorngumbald, I am on Kingston Communications landline @ £10.50 p/m and also have there Karoo broadband @ £19 p/m. what I am wondering is, because I have the old BT white telephone socket in my hallway can I cancel KC/Karoo and transfer back to BT and then go with another provider. Was thinking about Sky as they do a package for TV/Phone & Broadband.

    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Regards

You would need to know if BT can actually supply telephone service to you.

Yes, Thorngumbald is on the boundary between KC and BT so you should be able to get either. The BT line wouldn't affect the KC line in any way at all, so you could have lines on both at the same time if you really wanted!

Would it better just cancel KC and get it all from one package. The landline deal with KC is good as i dont tend to ring outside our area so get free calls so my quarterly bill is never more than around £35.

If i had landline with KC but opted to recieved BB and Sky i would then need to pay for a BT line aswell (not sure how much they charge for a line in)??
  • I normally have orange free with my mobile contract but since moving house they have told me I live too far away from the bt exchange, so that rules out just about everyonne doesn't it?

Virgin are not yet in my area so cannot have that....

What else can I try any ideas?

You would need to pay line rental for the BT line, this would give you a choice of phone & broadband providers though. Once the BT line is installed you would then be able to switch to another company with that line and not necessarily stick with BT. KC lines don't give you that option.

I suppose it depends how many local calls you make as to whether its worth keeping the KC line as well. Unless the cost of these calls per month on BT (or whoever you choose) is more than KC's inclusive monthly line rental charge it may not be keeping the KC line purely for local calls. Unless you make loads of local calls, or really wanted 2 separate lines, I cant see this being worthwhile.

Perhaps its a case of swings & roundabouts, a BT line will give you access to cheaper broadband, but a KC line could be cheaper for local phone calls.
  • We probably only use the phone for about 1 hour a week on average so i dont think we are big users. Like i say our quarterly bill is around £35 intotal this includes line rental and calls. At the moment we have freeview but i keep looking at sky as i like powerboats and the odd different sport that is on ''normal tv'' think Eurosport is good for that kind of thing but dont wanna get sky on its own as thats another £15 minimum which is approx £45 p/m for everything and i think there must be better deals than this.
