Homeopathic remedies in pregnancy???

Options
Hi......
I'm after a bit of advice , Im currently experiencing a bad case of morning sickness. Im not actually being sick, just retching etc and having constant waves of nausea 24/7 which the only way I seem to be able to help it, is to go to sleep. Because of this I have been signed off from work as I am struggling to do anything, except lie down....
I have been to see my Dr and he prescribed some tablets for anti sickness but he said they hadnt been used on pregnant women as that would be unethical (but he suggested I try them!!)
A friend suggested homeopathic remedies. So I wondered if anyone has tried homeopathic remedies whilst pregnant for morning sickness???

As you have questioned the tablets your doctor has given you, I would be very very careful with what you use. Many things before the three month period can hasten miscarriage or cause problems. I'd pop over to the pregnancy thread - that has lots of things suggested as many of us seem to either be nauseous or puking our guts up 24/7 (me included). Sea sickness bands are good, as are ginger oil (smelling it)mint things etc.
YOu could also search on nhs direct as that was quite good I seem to remember.

    Good luck!

Are you aware of what Homeopathic remedies are? Do some research first (ask your doctor on his thoughts), but be aware that you may be taking nothing more than just water. Maybe you could try some herbal remedies as Bun above has stated.

People aren't allowed to give medical advice on this forum, and I would say be careful.

Not for morning sickness, no, but I did use homeopathic remedies while pregnant. This is what I used: http://www.helios.co.uk/hh.html#DH18C

A homeopath would be able to advise what specific remedy to take but a general childbirth kit, like the one I used, might contain something helpful?

I have posted questions twice on the pregnancy forum for advice on morning sickness etc and received no replies, so I thought I would try here....

Severe morning sickness in pregnancy is a very REAL illness associated with pregnancy. I was being sick 24/7, dehydrated and was in bed constantly until 22 weeks with only sleep eliviating it. I was fobbed off by a GP when i first went to them with bad morning sickness. It was apparently "just something all women have". Anyway, after several weeks I ended up dehydrated in hospital and was given stemetil tablets. Never cured that horrible i'm-going-to-puke-any-minute feeling but did actually stop the actual vomiting. I was told these were safe in pregnancy (or as close to that as they can say). IF you feel your GP has fobbed you off then go back or try another one. AS for homeopathy - well I certainally wouldn;t be taking homepathic treatments without speaking to a GP first.

Ive been to see 2 Drs now and the first 1 said "what do you want from me then?"
I am due to go and see the midwife on the 28th Jan, so I may ask for advice, some sites state vitamin b6 may help with the nauseas feeling.
This is my 2nd pregnancy and it is FAR worse than my first one.I sometimes wish that when I get the im-gonna-puke feeling (which is most of the time) I was actually sick .My couch has become my best friend at the minute, along with the bathroom!!
  • Not advice but a suggestion: look up some holistic therapies too such as acupuncture, acupressure (actually how the seasickness bands work) and reiki healing. The practitioners themselves should be able to tell you what is safe in pregnancy.
I don't believe and I never did that two wrongs make a right
  • I found acupuncture helped with just two sessions, but one of friends found it did nothing for her. One of the midwives at my hospital did it for me.
    The IVF worked;DS born 2006.

I found that midwives just deferred back to the GP's position. It was only getting so ill and losing over 3 stone in weight that i was admitted to hospital and seeing a consultant that actually got the problem addressed. However if you are "only" feeling sick 24/7 and not actually becoming dehydrated and realy ill, then it might just have to be part of the course with this pregnancy.
