The pictures will be appreciated I'm sure. We ALWAYS love a cake (to share) or a box of biscuits for the staff room. However one is enough from a family. Not one for each teacher or TA.
A few days before end of term (so time to eat it!) is a good idea!MTC NMP Membership #62 - made it back to size 12 after my children & I'm staying here!0 -
Last year, one of my boys had a brilliant teacher who really enthused him. She was always good at finding the positive side of things, even when he was struggling for a while. (He was 7.)
Her funny little sayings and jokes would make him smile and help him to remember things. He always picks up on wit, so he used to look forward to these.
During the year, he wrote down some of her funny sayings at home, and at the end of the year, he made them into a card to say thankyou for helping him.
She seemed pleased with it and said that she was glad someone had been listening all year. She even showed it to her grown up children, who said, "Yup, that sounds just like Mum!"
(Yippee, my daughter's got her next year :j )"By not unsettling men, you will reassure them. By unsettling men either through timidity or malice, you are always compelled to keep a knife in hand." - Niccolo Machiavelli, 1469-15270 -
A hand made card would be lovely and is more personal I feel.
Parents shouldn't feel pressurised into buying anything, but children do spend 6 hours a day with teachers/TAs and get to know them very well, so it's quite natural for them to want to give a small token. You don't have to spend a fortune.
Maybe a small plant or a small bunch of flowers. I usually get so many chocolates I don't know what to do with them!0 -
I always appreciate a thank you card, especially if its homemade by the children and/or parents. I am not sure I am comfortable with the whole present thing - the mums (and even the children) can become a bit competitive, which is sad.
I always have a end of year party with the children to celebrate our year together. I would rather a contribution was made to this like balloons or crisps than a pressie just for me. I give each of the children a certificate for something kind or helpful they have done that year. One year a mum sent me a certificate about some of the ways I had helped her child. That was one of those moments that gives job satisfaction.0 -
Hi
This year my daughter has made her teacher bath salts and lavender soap. Not a particularly cheap exercise.
I think that if your children made some biscuits for their teachers that would probably be appreciated.0 -
This debate was on a couple of weeks back and the outcome was that teachers don't mind about presents, although other users felt it was a good thread to start some teacher bashing! Everyone agreed to send me some malt whisky though. If you pm me I will send you my address. Cheers!0

As a teacher, I love getting hand drawn pictures from my class. It means that they like me and I'm going in the right direction! I treasure them, put them up on the wall, so that they can see that I appreciate them - including ones from previous classes.Sealed Pot Challenge #021 #8 975.71 #9 £881.44 #10 £961.13 #11 £782.13 #12 £741.83 #13 £2135.22 #14 £895.53 #15 £1240.40 #16 £1805.87 #17 £1820.01 #18 £2021.83 declared0 -
Thank you all for your responses, especially the teachers! You have confirmed my belief that it IS the thought that counts and I'll bear that in mind when I eye up all the flowers, soaps, chocolates, vouchers ( yes, one mum sent in Boots vouchers last year!) lined up outside the classroom on Friday!
4 more days to go..............!!!:T :T :j :j :j0 -
I remember being packed off to school with christmas presents for my teacher - is that still customary ?0
