I totally agree with you at my sons school present giving has got a bit of keeping up with the jones's and it really p*****s me off that people with little or no money feel obliged to give expensive gifts twice a year to teachers.
That's not the fault of the teachers though is it.
Wildly my mind beats against you, yet the soul obeys. :heartpuls

No one on this thread has said that you MUST buy something for a teacher at the end of term, but some people seem to have taken it that way!

Anyway, it is nearly the end of term so you had all better be saving up your money to get a teacher something. If you don't have any children at school, or if you just don't have children than why not just buy me something? If you would like to send me a present (as I am a teacher), pm me and I will give you my address (I will be happy to pay for postage if the gift is worth more than £15).

    I like these things:

    xbox games,
    rock/ metal cds or vouchers,
    single malt whisky,
    etc...

    Thank you in advance.

thanks annie. it needs to survive washing up! do they do pens as ds1 not too good with brushes & he wants to draw smiley faces on them?

I know you can get porcelain painting pens (see link)

But I'm not sure if they would be suitable for what you want them for - plus they're very expensive :(

I don't know if anyone else would have any ideas??

    Love that poem too pdoff.

I was just thinking of ways to use that poem, to make something nice for teachers at DS3's pre school. Last year we made mugs with their names on.

I was thinking of that stuff you used to colour in at full size, then bake and it reduce in size. I thought making keyrings with this poem on might be nice, and doing the baked ones adds a touch of the personal effect.

anyone know where I could get that?

might start a seperate thread to see if anyone knows where it's from and what it's called!!

If I don't reply to you, I haven't looked back at the thread.....PM me :)

I've just found this poem on the web - I'm going to type this out and give it to dd1's teacher I think.

    Unity
    By Ray A. Lingenfelter
    I dreamed I stood in a studio
    And watched two sculptors there,
The clay they used was a young child’s mind
And they fashioned it with care.
    One was a teacher:
    the tools she used were books and music and art;
    One was a parent
With a guiding hand and gentle loving heart.
And when at last their work was done,
They were proud of what they had wrought.
For the things they had worked into the child
Could never be sold or bought!
And each agreed she would have failed
    if she had worked alone.
For behind the parent stood the school,
and behind the teacher stood the home!

As a mum of two girls in Primary school I've taken the decision not to spend money on 'teacher presents' this year and I wonder if this will cause offence?

All year I have helped out with the library, helped with the PTA, sent in over £30 in sponsor money etc etc. I feel like like I've done my bit. Last year when I asked my girls who they wanted to buy for they listed over 10 members of staff including Teaching assistants, student teachers and dinner ladies who they 'really liked' and wanted to give a gift to.

We are all very grateful for their hard work, so the girls are each writing their own letters and drawing pictures for their teachers and handing over on the last day of term. The kids are fine with this, I'm delighted....but what will the teachers think?

we never gave presents when i was a kid, is this a new thing?

(I have, however, eaten loads of chocolate given to my teacher friends, there's only so much they can eat!)

I have decided this year not to do presents for teachers, especially as my daugther has several different teaching assistants who help her too. I have decided to make a small donation towards the new school library instead and my daughter is doing home made cards for the staff.
