Where is the cheapest place to buy calico from?
I am going to stray from my normal sewing and make two rag dolls for my two nieces. Out of my comfort zone but I fancy a challenge.
Also does anyone know the cheapest place to buy stuffingas I too am making dolls.

I've got a pillow full of stuffing :rotfl:- my DD2's went all lumpy so I've kept it to use as stuffing. Other than that I'm not sure, but as it's quite light I shouldn't think postage would be very much if you were to find an on-line source.0 -
I have been trying to track down anything about dressmaking and/or sewing on the OS Forum. I feel quite dizzy and didn't realise how hopeless the site search facility is. There is no 'advanced' search so I get hundreds of irrelevant hits, no matter what I enter. Please can anyone tell me if there is a sewing thread (pardon the pun)?0

I think this is probably the best way to go about it. Normally one tries to use the search function - and finds, as you have, that it's largely unfit for purpose - and then posts a question, as you have here, on the board for others to read.
Next up, you'll no doubt get some smug sort saying something like, oh, "it works fine for me", or "try using it properly" before posting a link in a deppressingly condescending manner.
For what it's worth, I can't help you here - though I did appreciate the "needle in a haystack" pun
Good luck getting some answers!0 -

There is an Advanced search - look at the bottom of the search drop down boxI'll look for the current sewers thread and paste a link in a mo.

Look at that! Faith restored - glad to be proved wrong, I suppose!0 -
Any suggestions on a good mini sewing machine for a beginner? I want to be able to do trouser hems, turn collars, repairs, patching etc so just need something simple and reliable. I've looked at some machines online but the small cheap ones seem to have bad reviews in general.'Never keep up with Joneses. Drag them down to your level. It's cheaper.' Quentin Crisp0

Thanks, to both of you. I think I was so dizzy from working my way through completely off topic posts that I wouldn't have found either the thread or the advanced search.0

That was an afterthought. The pun I mentioned in the message was 'sewing thread'...awful, wasn't it?0
