HI Rikki, I find the markets can be the cheapest. Although in the past I've cheated and used a jersey duvet cover I bought from a charity shop for 50p.CC2 = £8687.86 ([STRIKE]£10000[/STRIKE] )CC1 = £0 ([STRIKE]£9983[/STRIKE] ); Reusing shopping bags savings =£5.80 vs spent £1.05.Wine is like opera. You can enjoy it even if you don't understand it and too much can give you a headache the next day J0 -

Does anyone know of any online fabric suppliers with reasonably cheap prices?
I've been looking for fabric too. I went to john lewis but they didn't have what I wanted and I went to fabricland.. again nothing. I wanted medium weight cotten or linen for placemats (my first 'project'!) I also looked around the local charity shops.
I could go into london and have a look. I was thinking of the markets.. any ideas which?
I've had a google online but its hard to see whats what.£2019 in 2019 #44 - 864.06/20190 -
I am short of lining fabric due the cut edge from the last garment made from it.
I am 4" short on the length. I could cut a strip and sew it onto the bottom to gain the required length prior to cutting out the pattern pieces.
Would you have the seam at the hip level of the skirt or lower down near the hem.
I'm thinking the latter or do you think the idea is totally mad?£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

I'd go for the latter Rikki, just incase you were having a "non-slim" day in the future & it might show - IYSWIM !
Doesn't sound mad to me at all, otherwise you'd have to go & buy another whole piece of lining.Don't Take Life too Seriously - Nobody gets out alive :rotfl:0 -
I've got a machine on freecycle but havent really sewed anything on a machine since peg bags in D&T! I made some cute xmas decs but am wokring up to making a dress for my 30th - in november. Could you lovely ladies suggest any easy projects for a beginner. I am "between jobs" at the mo thanks to the credit crunch so would like a project to give me hope between writing job apps.
many thanks in advanceWhatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it!'0 -

I was thinking the same.:o
I've had a play around with the lining and I can now cut the front panel and one back panel out in full and would just have one back panel with a joined piece at the bottom.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........

Skirts are a good starting point clothes wise for beginners.
The Sewing Room is a good place to get sewing techniques demonstrated in moving diagrams.

What a coincidence that this thread has come up again. I've just received two Butterick patterns in the post from the Butterick site (one was free too :j) Even with the postage they were cheaper than buying from the UK - I bought them when they had one of their one day sales. Now I just have to go out and buy some fabric - both are coats/jackets - I'm going to make one of them up in fleece.0

Where is the cheapest place to buy calico from?
I am going to stray from my normal sewing and make two rag dolls for my two nieces. Out of my comfort zone but I fancy a challenge.£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4.............................NCFC member No: 00005.........
