    thanks!

on the equifax site, the quickest option seems to be to pay £2 by card. if i use my girlfriend's card, will she be linked in to me for any bad credit i may find?

as i am not on the roll, what will they need as proof of who i am?

Hi, she won't be linked to you for you simply using her card. This can only be done if you apply for joint credit or bank accounts and will happen automatically, you will then be financially associated. If this has happened and is a problem for her then she can easily get disassociated from you by contacting the CRA's (providing you don't still have joint accounts)

As proof of your ID CRA's will be looking to tally the info you provide to their records. I believe if you have 2 forms of credit or bank accounts at your address you should be OK. If this isn't the case they will request 2 utility bills

    Hope that helps

yes it helps, thanks. but i am worried my £2 will be wasted, as i don't have any utility bills in my name. just a bank account (well 3 accounts from the same bank) and my car insurance (does that count as a form of credit if paid monthly?)

however, my parents disassociated themselves from me a couple of years back due to my credit, under the same address. will that matter?

Hi Branney - it shouldnt matter to be honest, and it is worth getting both Equifax and Experian just to check the data they have, and will give you a better understanding of exactly how bad your ratings would be to a credit provider.

On a positive not, I did send back the Vanquis application, and I had a very pleasant lady on the phone this morning to go through the details, and will have my very first brand spanking new credit card within 5 days, with a nice little 150 limit. I personally dont care about o% etc etc, as I will pay the balance every month, and I dont stooze so no bother! No deposit too. Excellent. Alls I want to do is have a card I can do my food shopping on, and build a little good history. And 150 is perfect - my food shopping budget is 150 per month for two of us and a cat, so ill never go over food shopping budget again!!

(For those o/stylers viewing this - yes, I think that budget is a little high, but we dont have stick to a low budget so I generally buy other things in it, like a top from tesco, or some bitter for the boyf.... Im feeling pleased today.)

equifax would not send me my credit report. they said i have to send utility bills and bank statement as proof of who i am. i don't want my bank account linked to any possible bad credit - would i be safe sending it? also i don't have utility bills - could i send them my passport?

do you have a number for vanquis? i can't find out where to apply online, and i don't have an application form

Interesting point, seems these are also the people who run "Yes Car Credit"!
  • Capital one is really good for giving people a chance! My credit rating is rubbish because of my x.
But capital one gave me a credit card and now I can buy things over the phone or on the net.
No proof of my address or deposit and a nice small £200 deposit! Its better than no credit card, and a chance to improve my credit rating and my limit.

I hate these people that moan about a poxy £1000 limit saying that’s no good to them?
You should be grateful you got a £1000 limit and stop moaning? I’m grateful for getting a £200 limit.
And plus it’s my first ever credit card and I don’t really need a massive limit, I don’t spend a lot anyway.

Good luck on getting your credit cards everyone!
I'm not poor i'm just skint

could it be they didnt ask for proof of address as you are already listed at that address?

i have not been on electoral roll or anything, so i might as well be making up the details, as far as the card issuer is concerned.

i have heard, however, some cards make you pay a £200 deposit for a £200 limit, that way they already have your money, but it is good for those who need to use a card for certain things, eg hiring a car or buying online

thanks, however it doesn't let you apply online. the only phone number is an answering service, unlike most other companies who would still have sales open at this time!

i know who they are, but i think they are my best option right now! i will have to call them during the day, i guess
