    Hi all,
Got an email back from my MP, Katy Clark, who has spoken to Mr Streeter's office, and instead of bringing the motion has decided to write to the LORD CHANCELLOR, I thought thats actually a better idea, head of the Courts and all that jazz, good news me thinks.
Thanks to all the competition posters.

Have now recieved a reply from my local MP, Nick Cleggs, office. Thought some of you might be interested.

"Apologies for the delay in responding to you. Nick's office receives a large amount of correspondence, and while we try and respond to everyone as quickly as possible, priority is given to urgent cases.

I am unaware of any motion brought to the House by Gary Streeter MP. I would be grateful if you have any further information on this matter if you could forward it on, so Nick will be able to fully respond to your comments about the motion. Please be aware that party leaders do not sign EDMs.

The Liberal Democrats agree that bank charges are unfair and it has been argued that they are illegal. The charges which banks impose on its customers are unreasonable as they tend to be disproportionate to the costs incurred by the banks themselves. The consequences of these charges can be financially crippling. Many people have been forced into spirals of debt, often for going only a few pounds over an agreed limit.
    <o>:p> </o>:p>
The Liberal Democrat Treasury Team has been very active in support of action groups opposing unfair charges. Vincent Cable, Lib Dem Shadow Chancellor and Julia Goldsworthy, the previous Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury have repeatedly called on the banks to reduce the charges meted out to those who enter an ‘unauthorised’ overdraft and they have written to the high street banks to highlight Lib Dem concerns. They have also written to the Office of Fair Trading, urging them to speed up their investigation into the charges.
    <o>:p> </o>:p>
Banks are fundamentally different from other companies because of the inbuilt monopoly in the clearing system and because banks enjoy the privilege of the Bank of England being the ‘lender of last resort’ (as we have dramatically seen in the case of Northern Rock). The Liberal Democrats believe that there is now an urgent need for an overall review of the regulatory regime governing the banking system and not perceived, ad hoc actions.
    <o>:p> </o>:p>
Our Treasury Team will continue to push the Government, and remain in dialogue with action groups on this important issue.
    <o>:p> </o>:p>
    Yours sincerely

The smiles are a quirk in the way this board outputs certain pasted characters. (I assume you copied & pasted from an email or a word document :p )

That looks like the miss world answer to me. You make an effort to write to your mp & they reply with this crap. Nothing we all don't already know.

No offence Vix, appreciate what you did, just disappointed with the response.

    :)

yes I did copy and paste!!! I did think it read like pr blurb. Still, better than no reply, which was what I got before I emailed to complain that I had not recieved a response. I suppose Nick Cleggs office is pretty busy at present as they say.
