Had 3 facilities managers at our company so far. None held any qualifications to the post.

They did show that they were competant and have management experience of the ability to manage.

Like I said, you could study facilities management and then easily be beaten by someone without your qualifications who has relevant experience.

    Phil

What do you see is the job of a Facilities Manager exactly?

Job Titles mean so little, you can never tell what these people do.

In a library it is all the other jobs librarians don't like dealing with contractors, buying stuff in, solving building problems, insurance and so on.

Why try to get a career?

Why not just try bumbling around a series of jobs for 2-3 years and see if you spot any chances, or work out what you really want?

Or join the army. They love degree holders. Get paid to be trained in something you fancy.

I don't think 25k is much compared to people who work in IT or business.

What did he do before then?

......totally away with the fairies.....

he worked in an office as a general dogsbody

why are you comparing yourself to people that work in IT or business?

(what about people who do IT for a business, do they get double or something?)

I was gonna offer some good advice, and then I saw this and it made me laugh. Why have I never realised how hilarious SP's threads are before?

Anyway Phil, if you can stop rolling about on the floor you could try volunteering at your local Citizens Advice Bureau. I do admin there, so I'm getting office experience, and it's great. You could also ask their advisors about your CV, how to get jobs/interviews etc.
But ..... you did give some good advice, that is highly commendable of you.

Depends on your region. IT is an in demand skill hence salaries are a lot higher.

What do you mean by business? You mean a CEO or director? Those below certainly can be on a lot less. In those places you get promoted and recruited based on track record, not having a degree you know.

How should I know why he has difficulty, he says he does so I beleive him .. are you saying he is lying.?

No he is not lying, he has the difficulty - the difficulty of not wanting to think for himself and just asking for advice on the simplest things. If he can get out of bed and go to uni and get a philosophy degree, then he can work out how to ask to have a £20 note changed.
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
