Getting rid of my old bath

Hi there, im wondering if anyone has any experience of getting rid of an old cast iron bath?
I replaced our aqua blue bathroom last year and my old bathroom suite is still sitting in my garden - the problem is the bath is cast iron and very heavy(took 4 of us to get it out!), I live in a victorian terrace with no back access will probably need to smash it up somehow( no idea how!) to get it through the house easily (its too heavy to lift really) and then hire a skip - the bath itself is in very poor condition although I did try putting it on freecycle on the offchance someone would like to collect it(ive head people like them for horse troughs etc!) not surprising no replies, also tried speaking to the council but they said it was too heavy for them to take. Is there another alternative can I pay someone to take it away how do I find them? Is it worth anything as scrap metal?

It will smash down in to smaller pieces, then a Scrap Dealer may be interested.

i always smash em to bits with a very large hammer.
worth a bit as scrap metal too.

you can always try and sell it, buyer removes. cast iron baths are worth money to reclamation yards. some rare ones are worth a lot of money.

Cast iron baths are normally sought after - exactly how bad a conditon is it now in? You might want to contact an architectural salvage company (look in Yellow Pages) to see if they are interested in it.

Assuming you can't Freecycle it or get rid of it...

If you have it outside wait till you have a heavy frost and smash it up while it's cold - it will break more easily. Wear ear defenders, eye protection and warn the neighbours or they may think WW3 has started...:D:eek:

Thanks for all the replies, I would be surprised if it was a sort after design - its aqua blue with a handle on one side looks very 60s im sure i saw others like it when i was viewing houses its not a roll top or anything but ill check it out just in case! If it was going to be used as a bath it would need a new surface as it looks permanently dirty, and new waste, taps etc. it originally had pine bathpanels on it which weve already skipped as they were rotten. If it is worth money even as scrap im surprised no one responded on freecycle aswell although i did list it as the entire bathroom suite and it seems most people want white nowadays!

ive been told its iron but none of us are experts!(originally i thought it was steel too when we bought the house) itds thick metal and has brown rough surface on the sides/underneath rusty looking also lots of numbers and writing on the base that i cant look at properly ive tried taking photos of them by putting a camera underneath- is it worth less if it is steel?

back again! ive been researching this (what a way to spend a rainy sunday!) this picture looks like it although mine and advertised as iron only has 1 handle but is also the "allied vogue brand"

bare cast iron is usually very rough and steel is fairly smooth.
steel may have typical rust patches in places whilst cast rarely shows any rusting. normally a greyish color all over.
cast is extremely heavy. steel is just heavy!
