    My farther had a natural burial in some woodland.

    He bought his plot years ago(when he told people they thought he was mad but then he was slightly weird so I guess it fit) and was put in the ground in a cardboard coffin. It was very nice as well and not at all what I thought it would look like.He did want to make his own but he got to old to manage it.
    No service, no readings or songs the whole thing was over in about 5 minutes then it was back to a local pub for a pint on him still ended up costing over a grand though.
    There is a race of men that don't fit in; A race that can't stand still;
    So they break the hearts of kith and kin, and roam the world at will.

    I know there is a bit of jest in this thread but I have recently faced this quandry. I lost my beloved father and he was to young to have made any plans or even told me his wishes. For many reasons I could not put him in a shiney brass trimmed box so I opted for a water hyacinth coffin. It was absolutely beautiful, I was a little worried that people would be shocked by it but I am still 3 weeks after his funeral being told how lovely it was and people had never seen one or even knew about them.
    It looked gentler,and nurturing? (not sure I'm explaining this well) and nowhere near as traumatic to look at. We all now know which 'box' to put each other in when the time arrivesand there was non of the wobbles or sag that can occur in some of the other eco coffins available.
    I had the whole funeral organised by the co-op (I was responsible for all the arrangements as next of kin and had to have someone guide me as I was so shocked to be in this situation in the 1st place) but you can get them from the company direct and I'm sure they would be a bit cheaper.

    the link does not take you to coffins!!:mad:
  • I like the idea of a shroud, I am not religious and do not want a "fancy" funeral. I have threatened to come back and haunt my family if they donot adhere to my wishes, there must be some legal precedents covering this?:mad:
  • Really like the idea of a flat pack coffin. I run a flat pack assembly business, perhaps I should add this as a category for my customers!?

    If I can help with flat pack coffin assembly for anyone in the Sussex area, Google 'Flat Pack Dan'.
