Hi guys!
I am not ready to shuffle off this mortal coil yet but feel the need to plan a green cost effective send off. My OH hates talking about it but to me its a natural event and can be pland for to avoivd extra stress at a (hopefuly) sad time.
Can anyone tell me were I could get a flat pack cheap coffin?
Idea being to keep it till required.
I like the idea of a transit for transporting item when in use.
Not sure if cremation is a very green idea but for some reason realy fancy being buried (not that I would be able to complain at that stage:D ).
Opinion and advice gladly recived.

I understand you can buy 'Body Bags' as used by the military and police; I believe there is a restricted choice of colours.
Possibly a plank inside to stiffen the 'Stiff' if you are to be placed on trestles
Burial at sea of course does away with the need for a coffin and must be the ulimate in eco-friendly disposal.0 -

as an eco Idea - why arnt crems fitted & used to produce electric etc? - It would make it more of an eco option!
Iv always wondered about this for other incinerators to.
Ps. sorry for hijacking! - t was op saying it wasnt very green got the singular grey cell in motion0 -

Sounds like a good idea but it would depend on the frequency of use. The crem may only be producing heat a couple of times per day, so it may be uneconomical to install the equipment needed to generate electricity.
One question this thread did bring up for me is, do you actually need a coffin? i mean is there a law that says you must be buried in a coffin. One person mentioned a body bag, a biodegradable one would be better.0 -
Don't muslims just wrap their dead in shrouds before burying them? I would rather something like that personally than spend money on a coffin even if it is a biodegradeable eco-friendly one.“You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time, but you can never please all of the people all of the time.”0

Not as environmentally friendly as it could be
Please note that the rectangular casket shape coffin is no longer available in the UK. These caskets, which are approved by the Green Burial Council, are now air-freighted directly from our partners in the USA; we invite you to browse the US website by clicking on the following hyperlink which will transfer you Woodland caskets in the USA
Unless this is cutting edge technology there is no reason why they couldn't be manufactured in the UK, unless the weak dollar of late has put paid to this...Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0
