In Scotland we just use wheeliebins (have to remember to tuck the arms in or the bin crew won't lift it)A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
I thought people couldnt be buried at sea anymore?
My Gran went down to her local funeral parlour and sorted it all out there you can choose eco coffins ect. She even chose her hymns venue Everything! It was the best thing she could have ever done as we didnt have to worry about if we had chosen right. She paid it off in instalments and then the plan just sat with her will. It would be easier to use a proper funeral place so they can deal with the paper work im sure an upset family wouldnt want to worry about filling in forms ect at a sad time.0 -
Wouldn't it be even more eco friendly to make your own.

Surprised no-one has thought of turning corpses into fertiliser (is this legal?) so your nutrients could be used and recycled into 'organic' food. Then again I do see a lot of greenhouses skirting graveyards!
Well than or Soylent green anyway!
I can't see why cremation is is any way green, since the carbon isn't sequestered like burying. It does save space however.0 -
I've told hubby that I want a woodland burial. I'd much rather have my body feed the flora and fauna than be burnt to ashes and go to waste.0

My mum left a cutting about a cardboard coffin with her funeral instructions, she said that would be sufficient as she wanted to be cremated, but when we asked about the prices etc at the time it was cheaper to have the budget pine coffin so we went with that. I think if she was being buried I would have been more tempted by the cardboard one as it would degrade faster which I guess is part of the point. I must admit it was the first I had heard about cardboard coffins though.0

You can get cardboard coffins from Peace Funerals (google them) in Sheffield starting at £145. I know people who have used them and they will deliver to any address via parcelforce - you don't have to get a coffin from a funeral director and pay for the markup. I run a Natural Burial company and our families frequently buy their coffins in this way.0
