Have you searched Personal statements on google?
Id suggest writing what you have written there in a longer form, then get the college to check it before you send it. It might be good to go into the student category of this forum as the guys in there have written their own, and thankfully its something i didnt need to do!
But if i were you i would write about how you a dedicated, ambitious, you wanna succeed and further yourself and you understand that you need the qualifications to get anywhere in the ICT industry as you understand there is alot of competition within it. Throw in a few posh words, at the end of it im sure they wanna have somone who really wants to do it and see the course through.
Good luck, i hope i was of some help to your son!0 -

You should carefully consider the information you give and the best way to present it effectively. Remember, you must be truthful and accurate in what you write. It is up to you how you write your statement, but we suggest you include some or all of the following points.- Why you have chosen the courses you have listed. Remember that, although each university or college that you have applied to cannot see your other choices, they will all see the personal statement. What interests you about your chosen subject. Include details of what you have read about the subject. What career plans you have for when you complete your course. Any job, work experience, placement or voluntary work you have done, particularly if it is relevant to your subject. You may want to include the skills and experience you have gained from these activities. Any involvement in widening participation schemes such as summer schools or mentoring activities. Involvement in master classes or other Gifted and Talented programmes, including those offered by the National Academy for Gifted and Talented Youth (NAGTY). Details of any accreditation received for your activity in preparation for Higher Education, for example through the ASDAN Aimhigher Certificate of Personal Effectiveness (CoPE qualification). Details of non-accredited skills and achievement that you have gained through activities such as:
ASDAN (Award Scheme Development and Accreditation Network awards), for example, Universities Award;
Diploma of Achievement;
Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme;
Liverpool Enrichment Programme;
Millennium Volunteers Scheme; and Young Enterprise. Any subjects you are studying that do not have a formal assessment. Any sponsorship or placements you have or have applied for. If you are planning to take a year out, your reasons why. Your social, sports or leisure interests. - Your future plans.
If you are an international student, also try to answer these questions:- Why do you want to study in the UK? What evidence do you have to show that you can complete a higher education course that is taught in English? Please say if some of your studies have been assessed in English.
- Have you had a position of authority or used your communication skills in any activity?

My daughter has just finished this because her tutor wanted them in for Fri. What they were told to write is how keen they were to be on the course they were choosing and write any relevant jobs they had had that would lend skills towards the career they would go onto with the qualifications from the course. Importantly they had to write what committees they were on in 6th form and how they were involved in school/college life, also if they were prefects or peer mediators to show that they were 'a people person'.
Hope this is of help to your son. Good luckNo one can make you feel inferior without your consent -Eleanor Roosevelt0 -
A personal statement for the Open University? Really?0
-
I don't think most Universities bother reading the personal statement anyway. For most it's a case of numbers and what grades you get whether they let you in or not. Just tell your son to do the best he can, and that's all he can do, and I doubt it will mean he doesn't get a place. If the University really cares that much and the course is so selective, they will give him an interview anyway. As it's ICT I doubt this will happen.0

I think the Open University is different, and for some candidates the personal statement can be of crucial importance.
In this case he is obviously a good student, and will almost certainly be accepted. However, the personal statement does matter. Make sure that it is in his own words, and should be in simple but correct English.0 -
Yes he is a good student he works hard his always on time and never has had a day off thats why he wants to get this right as his tutor was saying its the most important bit0
