Who has black floor tiles?

I have Roman blinds front and back upstrs and dowstrs so I guess any other kind of blind is out really.
Just don't know where to go with a colour.
The walls all through the house are Vanilla white, with duck egg and browns in most rooms.
I did try duck egg in the kitchen but just didn't seem to go.
I know what you mean about needing a shot of colour.
My house is pale cream & white & light oak all through.
My bedroom looked so wishy washy, it looked unfinished. So we made a huge oversized headboard in raspberry linen. It looks great. I'd seen huge oversized ones on TV but I couldn't find anything like it. Its 5 foot wide like the bed & about 4 & a half foot tall!!!
I had cream linen & curtains, but I've just changed them all to white. I need a new throw. The cream & coffee one won't look right with the white linen.
I'm thinking a chocolate brown fake fur throw, a really thick good quality one.
Then it's all pales except for raspberry headboard & chocolate throw.
I too have blues & chocolates as my accent colours in the living room. A sort of turquoisey colour. I have a fab large abstract oil with those colours, its got a chunky chrome frame (no glass!) & it square, looks great.0 -

The rasberry sounds nice. Will need to get some fabric samples and see what that is like with the Travertine tiles as they are shades of beige and creams.
I would love to have lime green with chocolate on the blind but I really don't think that would go with the tiles at all!0 -
I have black slate and i am having black grainte fitted as i type.
The slate floor is very nice and cheap to buy i think. I got them from topstile
About 90p a tile 300mm x 300mm. I used gray grout.
I will post a pic when the fitters have finshed.

Can you tell me what you are using for your decor, what colour blinds and walls etc?
Thanks0 -

At the moment you have no colour at all in your kitchen, its all neturals?
So you can have anything.
How about using one of the vivid accent colours from an adjoining room.
I have chocolate & turquise pictures in my otherwise cream/white/oak hall. To compliment it with the living room, as the living room is off the hall.
Personally I would look again at duck egg & chocolate (maybe mixed), duck egg blind with a thick (6 inch) chocolate band through it.
Or have you any other accent colours downstairs near the kitchen?0 -
Zebidee1 have you bought your floor tiles yet and where are you based? I have some matt black ones that I changed my mind on and couldn't return...they were going to go on freecycle but speak up if you want them.Holiday of a lifetime - December 2010

Yes its all neutrals in there and I think thats what makes it feel cold like somethings missing.
In the hallway I have the same black tiles, cream walls with a light wood console table (awaiting delivery!) and duck egg roman blind on the door and hall window.
In the living room and dining room (dining room is off the kitchen), its a cream carpet, dark oak furniture, dark brown leather sofa and dining chairs and cream walls with cream, blue and brown blinds and curtains, main walls are a dark coffee colour.
I did try painting one wall in the kitchen duck egg but it looked terrible and went back to cream. Its a decent size kitchen (about 3.5m x 6m but feels so dull!)

Yeah my bedroom was the same, something missing. Thats why I went for a shot of raspberry.
Mind you my kitchen is ALL neturals. Oak cabinets, black worktops, cream tiles (floor & walls) cream paint on walls. But its not huge, its only 3.7 meters by 2.5, I think thats why it needs just neturals.
Lighting is great for livening up rooms, I have recessed down lighters in the kitchen 6 of them & hidden strip lights under every wall cabinet & in the cooker hood. Have you got lots of lighting?
Not very MSE, but it looks great in the evening with just the strip lights & cooker hood.0 -

Thanks for the kind offer purplebiro but we ended up not buying the kitchen we were going to buy, so we're now still looking for one we like.
I dont want to get wall or floor tiles until we buy the kitchen in case we end up with something totally different to our original choice and we have tiles that might not go as well, iyswim.
It was really nice of you to think about us. :beer:0
