what do you think?

i kind of suspect some kind of fraud is going on, can you please give your thoughts to help me make a decision on what to do.
i know 2 couples
1st situation is
couple, 2 kids, he works, she doesnt
he works 40hrs p/w for £8.60 p/h
wtc was stopped when he got his last pay rise from £6.80 to £8.60

2nd situation
couple, 2 kids, he works + she works
he works 40hrs p/w for i believe more than the 1st man,
she works 2 jobs
1st job 5hrs p/w @£6.22 p/h
2nd job 14hrs p/w @ i believe a little over national minimum wage
they get wtc (dont know how much)

imo something isnt quite right, what do you think?
i am kind of worried and stumped as both situations are family :(

Couple 1 have an income of approx £18K. Are they sure that they are not still entitled to any WTC?

Enter some figures into www.entitledto.co.uk, it should be pretty accurate x

I'm not sure why you think there's any fraud going on. Final Tax Credits decisions are worked out at the end of the year. As dmg says you can try entitled to but you don't know their exact figures and they aren't necessarily doing anything wrong, is there any personal reason why you are looking at their finances and trying to see if they are committing fraud?

Why are you looking into your families personal affairs anyway?

I think you need to ask yourself how you would feel if you found out your family members were looking into your financial business & asking people on the net if they thought you were up to some kind of fraud.

In all honesty some things are too close to home to be meddling in & it's far better to either let someone else pick up on it or take up a hobby like crochet so you don't have so much time on your hands.

This is an open forum ~ you post things like you have and you will get replies, nor can you tell anyone not to!

If couple 1 are so concerned then I suggest that they take matters into their own hands and dont invole you.

Unless you have serious evidence that couple 2 are on the fiddle I suggest that you and couple 1 (assuming you are different) keep your beaks out

You asked us what we thought!

Let couple 1 do there own snooping.
  • unless you have access to all their actual income and capital its hard for you to ever tell if they are commiting fraud. Also depends if their tax credits have been assessed on last tax years income or if it is an estimate of what their income will be this tax year (if your income is going to be quite a bit different to previous tax year then they will estimate it for current year)

If you really feel they might be all you can do is report them and then let HMRC investigate themselves. Thing is if they are working for genuine employers and not cash in hand or anything then HMRC will be able to check their total income at the end of the tax year anyway!

You sound hell bent on finding out, what will you do if they (your family) is commiting fraud?
