Pixmania problems - a warning

• I’m pulling my hair out…

Over Xmas 2007 I was searching the net for a FULL HD’p TV and stumbled across a very nice Samung. After looking over many sites I found pixmania.co.uk which seemed to be offering an amazing price/sale on a 50” set which would be delivered within 5 days! BRILLIANT I thought, good price, good delivery, UK company [co.uk], so ordered it there and then - Well, I attempted to order it there and then… for some reason the site wouldn’t take my order so I gave in and called Pixmania direct. Even though they site boasts “90% of calls are answered in less than 30 seconds” it took me 20 minutes to talk to anyone.. I then spoke to a very rude Friend woman who told me my card was probable declined and I would need to contact my back informing then this transaction would take place. I contacted my card and needed to go through extensive security to get my card reactivated. I then phone Pixmania as I didn’t trust the website. I spoke to an even ruder woman who informed me I could order over the phone by the net would be better, I said I wanted to do it over the phone as I had problems prier, at which time she refused to take my order over the phone.. OKAY, alarm bells should have been ringing, and I “should” have taken my business elsewhere but I instead order online.

The order went through and my money was taken, HOWEVER I then received a email stating “Unfortunately, the product you ordered is not in stock at the moment. We expect a delivery to our warehouse on 2009-01-10. As soon as we have received your product in our warehouse, we will dispatch your order” ALTHOUGH the site had said the item was in stock! HOWEVER, the 10 was only 5 days after the original devilry date I was willing to wait. One of the suplied numbers from the email was disconnected and the other took me straight to Curry’s who will not dill with ANY Pix problems. On the 10th I again phoned Pixmania to see when the TV would be delivered, again spoke to a very rude person, who informed me I may not receive the same TV I paid for and the TV wouldn’t be in stock till the end of the month [which I would have never known without calling might I add]. I asked to make a complaint, I was then told I could not and the rude person hanged up on me! I again called alternative number Pix had given me, but yet again all redirect you to Curry’s who will not discus ANY Pix Problems.

I called Pix back, told a “gentlemen” what had happened at which time he asked me “What do you want me to do about it?”. I again asked to make a complaint which he took, HOWEVER when I asked when someone would get back to me, ie: in 24 hours or 14 days I was told a manager would contact me if he “wanted to“. I’ve send several emails, and altho Pix’s website states “We answer all e-mails within 24 hours” I’ve yet to have one response!

SO, I needed to work out of London last month, and needed to delay my trip by 3 days as CURRY’S were finally delivering the TV. The Delivery Men turned up, the box was brought in, I signed and the guys run off.. And as I needed to run for my train the box has sat in my living room till I returned last week.

On Friday I eagerly opened the box… to find the LARGE scratch across the screen!
Of course I’ve called Pixmania, held just to have the phone go dead or to have someone hang up after 30min of waiting! I’ve tried all the telephone numbers Pixmania emailed me, Curry’s don’t want to know, and one number for Pixmania is a Van Rental company! Not knowing what to do, I’ve contacted DSG, who openly admit Pixmania is a DSG company, but only deal with complaints dealing with Curry’s PC World est… not Pix.

I have NO idea what to do! I’ve been messed around left right and centre and all I have to show for it is a damaged TV which cost £700!

• PS: I wanna sort it so I can block all Pix emails! I’m bored of all the SPAM!

I too ordered off pixmania sadly a while back I ordered 2 20" lcd tv's said they would be delivered in 5 days so we waited nothing came eventually 20 days later they turned up. The only problem was that the plugs were 2 pin plugs how the hell can you use the telly with a 2 pin plug. We got on the phone to them and they denied all knowledge that it was a 2 pin plug and we had to send them pictures in an email!! Eventually we gave up and bought 2 adapters from asda!

I hope no one else orders from them if this is the sort of customer service they give!

Shame to see they're no better than my experience a couple of years ago. I bought a digital camera from them that on every single photo had lines running down it when I transfered it to my PC. Each time I said it was faulty I was given different excuses:

1) The memory card might be faulty
2) Your PC might be malfunctioning
3) It could be the cable you're using to transfer the pictures (?)
4) The lens might be dirty
5) You haven't read the manual correctly

I even took a photo of myself in the mirror to show them the fault, but it still took a LOT of effort for them to accept it back.

Avoid!
• In case it helps anyone...I ordered a tv from Pixmania a couple of weeks ago and received the "please phone France for validation" email a couple of days later. I thought this was odd and googled them only to be horrified at what I found!

The track your order page on the website said I was unable to cancel my order but I clicked on the customer services link on the page which did allow me to fill a box in. Not only did I not want to send personal details but I was now worried about the tv as many people had been delivered faulty goods.

I filled the box in stating that I wished to cancel the order as, having discussed the company with Trading Standards, it appeared that the company does not provide "clear information about goods and services" at the point of sale with reference to validation requirements. In addition the company did not observe "the cooling off period" required by law by disallowing the refund process on the website despite an email having confirmed that the order process would not be completed without validation and therefore the tv was obviously not in transit yet. And finally the validation requirements were vague, did not state on which items or at what price this would apply and was not highlighted at the point of sale - in essence did not therefore adhere to the requirement to provide clear and precise information about the goods, services and requirements.

I said the law states a refund must be given within 30 days and as goods have not been received a credit voucher is not an acceptable option.

I also copied this in an email to s.rosenblum@fotovista.com, one of the bosses at Pixmania as someone had said on a forum he had been helpful when all other routes failed!

The refund was processed by 10am the following morning and is now back in my paypal account.....having said that the money hadn't even come through from my bank at that point so there's a temporary hold by paypal for them to clear so they can be refunded. So I'm nearly there.....!

If this helps anyone currently feeling as freaked out as I was I'll be glad!
• Rip OFF!!!!!!!

I've been looking to purchase a Sony Bravia KDL 40w4500 for a while and about a week ago found it listed on Pixmania.ie for €1149.03. This was listed as having 1 years warranty with the option of an extended 3 year warranty from Pixmania for €129.53.

Sony themselves had started giving a 3 year warranty on all their Bravia televisions, so I went back to Pixmania today to buy one for the €1149.03....only to find the price had changed!

Pixmania have removed the option for a 3 year warranty from themselves, and increased the price of the television to €1243, in effect, charging extra for a warranty provided by Sony!!!

This is not on!!!

Anybody here know who I could make a worthwhile complaint to about this?
