Hi Usman786 ...following on from your post of 24/03/2010, are there any updates?
  • Hi, I have received a call offering the same holiday to europe for up to 6. I was then told that because I am seperated I do not qualify as this is for couples only & did i want to give it to a friend or family member ? I am very suspicious as I looked at the website !!!!!!! which I am supposed to have entered a competition but I am quite sure I didn't. Has anyone actually been on a holiday with this company please ? I am new so I hope I have posted this correctly !!!

The reason for this is that one of their main techniques during the hard sell is to play couples off against each other... not very nice at all.

I was recently at a food festival and was asked to fill in a competition form. Very soon after I received a call from Select Holidays congratulating me on winning a holiday for 2 with flights and 5 star hotel in Spain, Portugal or the Canaries to be taken anytime in the next 18 months. Great I thought but why do I have to pay £29.50 per person for a prize and travel quite far to collect it?
We told some of our freinds who had been at the same food festival and guess what? They ALL had won a holiday too, boy am I in a lucky bunch or is it just a con?
I then received the info by post (as we all did) and realised it was a hard sales. To qualify you must have an income of £30K and be a homeowner so if you haven't got cash to spend with them you're out!
It's up to you to decide if this is a "free" holiday or a "prize" but I am certain that select holiday's wouldn't exist if they gave it all away for nothing no strings attached.
I have since heard that someone who accepted was hounded by determined sales people and ended up spending more than if he had booked a cheap last minute deal.
When someone from select phoned me up to ask if I had received the info and I told them all my friends had won too and I wasn't interested, she sounded quite angry, now that's a company I would want to send me on holiday....NOT!

  • just been to the Club la costa presentation and came out after an hour saying "NO". Got the £25 voucher and the free holiday voucher as well. But the holiday dates are too restrictive and with 2 kids we are probably not going to get the school holiday dates we want. So better than losing £120 in booking fees we're not going to use it. Overall it has been a waste of our time. Unless you're flexible with your holiday dates and can say easily say NO then don't bother going to the presentation. The high st vouchers are just not worth the effort

  • My husband and I went to Club Costa presentation yesterday in London. (3 1/2 hours NOT 2). Initally the 'informal chat' seemed harmless, until you start to show little interest. We just did not think it was worth it. We have small children and were not willing to commit to any financial tie down - which they WILL try and force you to do on the day. The manager desperately tried to show us we could afford it, but again, when my husband said no, the manager persisted. My husband had to get quite abrupt and say NO we are not interested, in a polite but forceful manner. The manager then was EXTREMLEY RUDE and stormed off. The consultant then took a further 20 mins to issue us with our £25 voucher and 'free holiday'. It all turned quite frosty. We will happily spend the £25 voucher but after reading all the comments here are just not willing to take a holiday with these people.

They did say there would not be any 'demonstrations' or further sales talks on the holiday but after reading the small print on the booking form, we don't think it's worth the risk. It states it you do not attend the 'hospitality tour' (no doubt more hard sell and rudeness) you will be charged £250 to offset 'subsidise accomodation costs'. Has anyone else realised this, is this the case?

Our verdict - waste of time really not worth the £25 voucher. We'd much rather book and take our holidays the way we always do.
  • Just come back from one of Club la Costa's presentations at Duchally in Scotland.
We filled in our registration form including the fact we owned 3 weeks of timeshare in the US.
When we were called in there was no hard sell at all. In fact our ownership put them off and they admitted we were very unlikely to buy their product.
We were asked were we just there for the cheap holiday and my wife said "yes" which the saleswoman laughed at.
She then just fronted up and said there wasn't any point in spending 2 hours with us when there were other clients waiting who might be easier to sell to.
We got £50 of M & S vouchers and the holiday offer to Spain, Portugal or Tenerife. I think we'll take them up on it. We have no issues with specific weeks and there's only two of us going so including airport taxes it should cost us about £160 + spending money. I'm sure we can outlast the sales pitch on the site.
I'll try to remember to post once we've gone.
  • We 'won' a free holiday with Exclusive Lifestyle Passport and went to the Club la Costa meeting where we were given the hard sell. We didn't like the idea and declined the offer, but decided to try the promotional holiday to see what the facilities were like.

We completed the holiday options form, choosing Portugal as our destination and flying from Scotland, and sent away the £60 admin fee for the two of us.

We received an offer of a holiday in Costa del Sol, flying from London in a week which we did not choose as neither of us are available. Upon calling Exclusive Lifestyle Passport, we were constantly referred to their Terms and Conditions (which we have never seen) which apparently state that the preferred options cannot be guaranteed. They also wanted us to pay a £99 airport fee, so it's not even a free holiday!

I was wary in the beginning, but I'm really angry now that we've been conned like this. Obviously enough people fall for it to make it worth their while. PLEASE STEER CLEAR OF THESE COWBOYS!!

I knew there was something else *attached* to the 'Free Holiday' we won.
Telephone call yesterday saying congratulations Mr and Mrs CCEG after filling in a survey form on your flight home last year from Cyprus you have won a 7 night holiday to Southern Spain.
All you have to do is bring us some ID here in Lewes and pay £29.50 PP plus airport taxes.

I said, really? Surly if we had *WON* that means everything is paid for normally?

I wondered why she saked me 4 times that we earned over £35k and owned our own house.
Making sure we have some £££ behind us to spend with them, maybe?

And, come to think of it, i am very picky who i do and dont fill forms in for, I remember doing on on a Thomas Cook flight coming home, am dissapointed that Thomas Cook may have sold on my details.

I told the lady on the phone that when she said we had to come with ID i said, well my husband works away and i have a disabled child so getting there is hard 'no worries it will only take 5 mins, just bring your husband passport'
Dont belive that for 1 second.

ALso, i have *WON* £50 highstreet shop of my choice vouchers.

I asked if there was any catch, or any timshares invloved and she said no - i had wne a FREE holiday for 4 people.

What twoddle - i am going to phone them back on Monday tell her what she can do with her free flight and free holiday.
