You will have a lovely time in Malta!
Yes its a bit ''rough and ready'' but that is what adds to the appeal of the place, its like going back in time! Its def not like tenerife!
I lived there for a few yrs and go back when I can to see friends, and I hope to go back this yr again if I can get a good deal on flights.

    Enjoy!!

Oooh can't wait now. At home we're just into walking or doing new things - we've done the Severn Valley Railway for the first time last weekend after me living in Kidderminster for nearly 30 years! We like drinks overlooking the sea rather than clubbing!

I can't wait to do the boat trips and see Valetta. Not sure whether to go to Gozo yet - depends on time and cost.

    Thanks all for the information!

  • Catt you're gonna have a great time.
Have a drink at sunset by the sea, it's beautiful.
Take a trip on the buses - every one has a little shrine to the Virgin Mary - the drivers need all the help they can get!

That's so true, but an experience to be had!

I went to Malta to stay with a friend in February last year.

We took the ferry to Gozo (can't remember how much it was but wasn't expensive) and had arranged a taxi to pick us up in Gozo and take us on a guided tour of the island. This was booked through the local taxi company in Bugibba. I think there were taxis touting for business when we arrived in Gozo as well. There were three of us, and again, it wasn't too expensive, but can't recall exactly how much. The taxi driver gave us a suggested itinerary, but we were welcome to change it. Also asked for local cafes etc to stop for coffee etc, which were better and cheaper than tourist trap cafes. We were very pleased with the trip, and it was extremely convenient having the taxi for the day.

We loved Mdina, and you must visit the Fontanella tearooms, which do the most fantastic cakes. Lovely rooftop terrace as well. Google Fontanella Tearooms

    Enjoy!!

    Just a couple of tips.
It's a very religious Island so most places will be shut on Sunday so if you need anything get it the day before. It's also the perfect day to chill by the pool or go for a walk.
If you visit any churches you will need to cover your shoulders. Not sure about legs, can't remember if you have to cover knees or all of the legs but I'm sure that info is easy to find.

Sorry I didn't know Malta had already gone over to the Euro.

Yes do go on the buses, last time we went there were some new buses (we were very impressed! Plus some tarmaced roads!!) but they still have the old ones too! :)

Just get the bus up to the terminal, it won't cost much. I'm not sure how much the ferry is though but the little boat to the Blue Lagoon wasn't too much. I think you will like Malta Skint Catt, i'm 20, but have never been clubbing in Malta, it does exist so i've read, but i've always been with family, but I don't think i'd want to go clubbing anyway! Oo i'm jealous, I want to go!

You too! 1 May is Labour Day there isn't it - does this mean EVERYTHING will close? Just wondering what to do with ourselves other than a nice long walk (bring on 20 degrees!)
