The Red Roof Inn is somewhere I've been happy with in the past. It's just around the block from the Empire Sate Building (in Koreatown)

does anyone know of any "cheap" but not cheap hotels in nyc? nothing crap... but nothing where you're likely to get shot for having more than a fiver and a fake rolex?

I went to New York at the beginning of December, and we stayed at The Americana Inn (5min walk from Macys, 5th Avenue, Times Square etc.) and The Pod Hotel (about a 5min walk from subway station, 25min walk from Times Square).

Both were very good, and both worked out at £50 per person, per night (based on two twin beds). The Americana Inns big seller was it's location. It's much cheaper than any of the other hotels in the location, and it is very easy to get anywhere in NYC from the location. The hotel had 24hour security, and you have to buzz in to get the front door to open. You do have to share bathrooms, but we didn't see or hear anyone else use ours while we were there, and they were always clean. The room has normal sized beds, TV etc.

The Pod Hotel was a lot different, it's a bit out of the way of all the sights and attractions, but 1 stop from Grand Central Station and in a nice part of the city. The rooms are fairly small, and they have bunk beds and each bunk has its own TV. There is free wi-fi and an iPod docking station in each room, and the hotel has a roof garden, restaurant etc. You have to share bathrooms with this hotel aswell, but they are very very nice, and there is a display in your room saying which bathrooms are free or in use.

We booked both hotels at http://www.statravel.co.uk, which is supposed to be for students or under-25s, but I don't think it matters with hotels.

The cheap prices are available in the 2 week Easter school holiday as well.

A few hotels coming up @ £50-60 per person per night
EVERYBODY MOVE TO THE CLOUDY ROOM, EVERYBODY MOVE!!!

  • Take it the 150 is not including taxes?

which puts it up by about another 50 quid. Still, a good price at that.

Direct flights are available, or some have a 4hr layover in Atlanta.

I really wouldn't be moaning for the price!
    Gone ... or have I?
