Hi all,

Don't know much about cars, but my girlfriend is looking for:

Ford Fiesta 1.4/1.6 TCDi
Silver/Black
Air Conditioning
5 door

Something like:
http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/used-prices/Valuation.aspx?deriv=22774&plate=77&issue=0

I have been told that 5 door diesel Fiestas and small cars in general are particularly scarce at the moment and that its not a good time to buy as the second hand price is inflated at the moment.

Do people agree with this?

Thanx

With the Fiesta used prices don't appear to reflect the price when new, for example many 1 year old Fiesta's are priced £500 less than a new one is available for.

For example, your link is for a 3 year old vehicle which it says is worth £6400. A brand new 1.6 TDCI is available for £9999, before you haggle with a decent spec too...
1.6 TDCi Ghia 5dr Panther black
DELIVERY MILEAGE ONLY with features including ONYX LEATHER INTERIOR, air conditioning, anti lock braking, alloy wheels, MP3 auxiliary music socket, Quickclear heated screen, electric front windows, rain sensing wipers, auto headlights, high level brake light, remote central locking, front airbags, map reading lights, compact disc player, power folding and heated door mirrors, leather steering wheel, electric tailgate release, tinted glass, perimeter alarm system and front fog lights. ORDER NOW FOR 22nd FEBRUARY DELIVERY, £ 9999

If you go for the diesel, I'd buy the 1.6.

If you buy the 1.4 Diesel your soon wish you had brought the 1.6!
Has your gf considered anything else other than a Fiesta?

Look out for the 1.6 TDCi Zetec-S New or used. It is a cracking car and looks like an ST but with cheaper insurance and running costs.

I've driven the 1.4 TDCI - it is a nice car (the ghia) internally, pretty comfy, nice radio, etc. However, the engine isn't the greatest and there is quite a bit of cabin noise when on the motorway.

I would highly recommend test driving a skoda fabia vrs just to compare. I know its a skoda blah blah.. but just test drive one and you'll see how much more refined the enigne is, and there's little difference internally quality-wise. Can pick one up for about 7k for a low mileage model.

    Hi all,

We finally got ourselves a 1.4TDCI 03 reg car.

My gf really wanted a Fiesta TDCi so there was no option to go for anything else.

We got a Ghia though - she wanted it to be 5 door and as high in the range as possible without being sporty.

Quick question - how good are Ford diesels compared to other makes. Also there was a time when you had to wait for a light to go off before driving away in a diesel.

Has that changed in Fords now (or for this car?)

    Thanx

They are a lot better than they used to be ! They do tend to be a bit "rattly" when cold because of the hydraulic tappets, when they're warmed up they are fine.

You should wait for the Glow Plugs light to go out on any diesel before you start it.

TDCi is a cracking engine. Very powerful compared to "standard" diesels of the same engine size. Not sure about yours but on my Mondeo 2L TDCi, the turbo is designed to overboost for a few seconds when you put your foot down which makes it actually accelerate faster than the petrol equivalent.

Only downside is if the injectors get a fault, it's expensive as the ECU needs programming to the new injector. Not like the old days.
  • I've got a 1.8 Focus TDCi and can't fault the engine in it. Powerful when you need it to be, economical when you don't! And for a diesel, it's amazingly quiet.

Only downside, if that is the right word, is that if you get a problem with the engine, you have to get it looked at by a professional. Modern common rail diesel engines run at such massive injection pressures that they are dangerous to repair yourself if you don't know what you are doing. Having said that, they have a fantastic reliability record and a 12,500 mile service interval is nice too!

Skoda's are more or less rebadged VW's these days. I and many Skoda fans would probably argue is actually a bad thing in many ways. Second hand dealers etc will try and sell you them on the basis you're getting a VW for less money - in fact there is so much confusion that people even try pass off the Felicia as based on the VW Polo Mk2 when it had no VW input on design, simply the option of a 1.6 or 1.9d VW engine as opposed to the standard 1.3 Skoda engine.

The only reason people don't want to drive Skoda's is simply vanity - it's that badge on the front. If BMW took the car and the badge simply changed from Skoda to BMW they would sell like hot cakes overnight for alot more money than they do now.

Here's a good forum for anyone interested in getting a Skoda http://www.briskoda.net/

Skoda came up with some great adverts based on the Skoda jokes... Unfortunately it seems they didn't manage to quash them. But that can only be good for enlightened people who like to save money on cars ;)

Is this still true? I mean, I have a Citroen C4, and I don't know where the Glow Plug lights are. I just switch on the car and go. Is this wrong?

    Thanx
