Tesco's Coupon Policy - Confirmation Please

  • Sorry if this is a dumb question but I'm pretty new to all this Tesco voucher stuff (I've been reading it all but haven't pulled up the guts to try it yet!! :)) )..

When the cashier scans the voucher, if you haven't bought the product then does the voucher still scan or will it just not take it? In other words, do the coupons work automatically or do they need to manually input it if you haven't purchased the item?

    Thanks! :D

The voucher should scan thru with no need for intervention by the cashier. The troublesome cashiers are the ones that refuse to scan them.

If you just want a quiet life then I suggest you try a single coupon at the self-scan till and see for yourself that this really is Tesco policy.

I scanned most of the coupons from best magazine at my local tesco's self-scan till with no issues - other than the whole *doesn't work properly* food in bag weighing thing severely irritated me!!!

Are there any supermarkets in West London (W4,W6, W12, W5 Ealing etc) that allow selfscan vouchers?

The selfscan units will noy take £50 notes either!

I scanned some coupons at the self-service in my store, and the screen promptly asked me to insert them, followed by a message "Store Approval Arrived".

The woman came over, opened the machine and took the vouchers out and asked if I'd bought the Guardian, Telegraph or Independent (the 3 vouchers inside) - I replied no but showed the email. She had none of it - she made her own policy.

However, she did read the back of the coupons and it did look like she was right in terms of the statements on the back of the vouchers, so what is really right? Isn't tesco's policy in breach of the vouchers' terms and conditions, or are they too big to be bothered about it??

The manufacutres cannot expect the stored to proove sales of individual items match individual vouchers, the cost would be too high.

So it is about cost / proof and as you suggest clout ;)

BUT IF HEAD OFFICE HAS T&C AND THEY WORK INSTORE THE SAME RULES SHOULD APPLY TO SELF SCAN, HAVE YOU CHECKED WITH TESCO HEAD OFFICE?

I was told by Head Office that if I had any problems with individual stores and this policy, to take the name of the person and the store details and contact Head Office so that they could inform the store in question of correct company policy. At the end of the day, yes Tesco is being great by letting us do this with coupons (we reward them with all our money!!) but that doesn't give individual stores the right to go against company policy and embarriss their customers when they try to do something that the company has told them they can. I don't know why people in stores think they have the right to define company policy against what Head Office has said.

Please do contact them about this store - these things need to be ironed out!

do not realise that Tesco will get a rebate+ postage on these items. So they will MAKE MORE money than customers who pay by cash with no vouchers! I've assumed the processing costs and handling are negligable and that the staff involved would be in place anyway: Zero incremental cost for processing vouchers.

They are not being nice it improved their bottom line, like offering cashback reduces their costs for cash handling (about £2 or £4 pounds per £100 charged by the banks!) Some customers see it as a good service, which it might be, but BOTH vouchers and cash back improve bottom line.

I've emailed them and they simply say that "they will contact the store manager about this".

It's different when you're standing in front of a queue of people and trying to argue against the logic of the nutcase supervisor. I've told HQ about this before and nothing is ever done. Maybe when Walmart wipes them out they'll start to take note...

I too am new to all this using coupons ....... so from what I've been reading is that if you go to ASDA they are the best and will accept any coupons (if product bought or not) no questions asked and no limit to the % off total bill???

If so, then I will start using vouchers instead of throwing them away cos i dont use the product!!!
