  • If you don't have a smoke alarm do contact your local fire brigade and see if they will supply one for free.

Whilst I was at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta in August (if you havn't been mark your diary for next year its a great day/weekend out and its free to get in) the Bristol fire brigade were there offering free installation and a fire saftey assesment. it only takes approx 20 mins to install and answer a few saftey questions with some handsome young firemen.

    Be safe!

I heard on the news tonight about the amount of fires that happen etc, particularly around Christmas time etc. I had a look and came across this listing of all the Fire Brigade contacts in the UK, lot of useful info on the site too. I've had a smoke alarm sitting in a drawer, waiting to be fitted for ages. Put it up now, already have one in hall but another one can't hurt.

Contacts on this link for every Fire Brigade in UK

PS - Take note Kazia - there should be a Manchester number in there so no excuse now.

Just thought I'd bump this up, having working smoke alarms are lifesavers. Please get one or check your batteries etc are in working order.

The invention on this link etc would be certainly worthwhile too.

Hi I work for a Housing Association and they were also offering free smoke alarms supplied and fitted.

Might be worth asking your HA or council, if applicable. And please, NEVER take the batteries out to use in something else!
  • I just thought i would bump this. As i only just found it and the scheme is still running (in wales at least). Just rang the number so waiting for my appointment time. Everyone should get this done!!!

  • I agree with the 'get this done' ... we had a house fire a few years back. Luckily we were alerted by our sons (the culprits!!!!) prior to the alarm going off. This then kicked in as we were leaving the house, but it would have saved lives too as there wasnt that much delay in us 'discovering' the fire and the alarm going off.
  • Just a quick note - this is still running and also now if you use a chip pan the fire service will fill in a form for you to get a free deep fat fryer, mine hasn't arrived yet so i can't say how big it is etc - i presume this is because of chip fat fires.
