  • Already got smoke alarms fitted. Pity, would've liked a fireman to come round and visit me in his uniform. :shhh: OH working away. :rotfl:
Wonder if they would fit one in the shed.

10yr smoke alarms are free to anybody who lives in West Yorks the fire brigade will do a free fire safety check also the alarms are fitted free.
If you are aged 60 or over they will give you an electric blanket and a electric chip fryer all for free. Yippeeeeeeeeee. Tel 0800 587 4536 (you must live in West Yorkshire)
  • If you live on Merseyside the fire service will supply and fit smoke alrms free of charge, even if you have old alarms they will probably replace them with the latest more efficient alarms which dont have replaceable batteries and should last up to 10 years, they also have a silence facility ( great when you burn the toast).
It wont even cost you a phone calll just ring freephone 0800 731 5958 and they will make a timed appouintment to visit.

All local fire services are offering a similar service as it is a goverment led initiative, as with anything free, the offer wont last for ever so pick up the phone...it may save your life!!!

  • Nearly all Fire Brigades in England are now giving free Smoke Alarms to houses with none fitted. Check your local fire brigade website (google it), and there will be a link for them to come check your house for fire safety. No alarms, they will fit them. Cheap and safe - good for your granny etc!
  • The fire Brigade in oldham and manchester are also offering these smoke alarms had mine fitted months ago and they are really, gives you peace of mind as well knowing you dont need to change the battery for 10 years :T

What a wonderful deal. I will try and see if our one (In Scotland) is doing anything and get them round to my aunts and parents.

I know first hand the damage of fires. We lost our home and virtually all our possesions on Xmas eve last year when my tumble dryer exploded. It wasnt old, over full, faulty or anything like that it just decided to explode and take out my whole kitchen and ruin the rest of our house by very bad smoke damage.

Here is what was left of it, http://groups.msn.com/KatysHouseFirePics/shoebox.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=41 .

So i urge everyone to use this deal and dont let your lives be ruined like mine and my families were.

  • Thanks for the brilliant post. I did not realsie they would be able to replace our old alarms. I will phone them tomorrow.
  • I had two smoke alarms, with 10 year battery life fitted free of charge by my local Fire brigade. (Lancashire)

They came round to the house, had a look around, talk to you about exit routes, in case of fire, and check that you are not overloading sockets.

really good, as these 10 year smoke alarms cost about £15 each.
