the mozzies in turkey (especially dalyan) arent a problem until mid-july and august when they are horrendous. i brought avon last year (was in dalyan whole summer ) very quickly went back to local sinkov (god knows whats in it) after i got eaten with avon on. But local chemists there sell a deet-free one my friend used on her child - cant remember the name but it was german made i think. SO, avon might work for low-season for not for hot months0

Gotta disagree, been to Dalyan in Spring and Autumn loads of times - and the mozzies were always BAD  . I wouldn't trust using Avon there at anytime of year.0 -

In the evening I use Avon Aftersun with built-in insect repellant with just a quick spray of something with Deet (I usually buy the local product as it's more effective). Mozzies love to feast on me but they've been out of luck the past few years.
I used the same in Kerala, although I made sure I used 50% Deet in the evenings and I had a very painfree experience. No bites or prickly heat. In fact I thought the Avon Bronze lotion with insect repellant (factor 12) was one of the best I've tried as I usually get a heat rash, and this time nothing. I really suffer usually with bites and rashes, and this was the first holiday I didn't need antihistamines.0 -
The Avon product sounds wonderful. However, I have been reading about the Dengue epidemic now affecting South America and the advice to avoid bites is NOT to wear perfume. They also mention the DEET repellents. Here's the link, but I'm afraid it is in Spanish.

Another thing you can do if going to a mosquito infested area is avoid having water around (like flower pots, wet surfaces, etc).0 -
Anyone who claims to have sucess with these products has simply had the good fortune of a coincidence.
I don't agree with this either.
My husband used to get bitten loads and has hardly been bitten at all since he's been using it.
He travels extensively (about once a week) so I don't believe that it is coincidence. If Avon really thought that SSS worked don't you think that is how they would market it?
There is some investment involved to be able to safely and legally make claims about the features of a product.
I believe they do not want to make this investment for business reasons.
However I would still say that if you are going to an area that you know is infested then you should follow proper medical advice rather than anecdotal (however strong).
At least if you have taken all precautions then you will be insured if anything goes wrong.0
