Avon SSS will definately work for midgies Macnab. Can't remember the name of the one to get offhand as its no longer called Woodland Fresh but its the one in the green/blue bottle.

If you are a member of pigsback.com you can get piggy points by shopping through Avon and as already said its 3 bottles for £6, bargain icon7.gif

edited to add, I should have read the whole thread as Sheel has already posted that its Soft and Fresh icon11.gif

Just got 3 bottles for £6 and by using the coupon code shown in the discount vouchers forum got £5 off - had to pay the p+p though!

Well it deffo worked for me, i'm going back to Turkey in May and will be using it again.

i can't use anything with DEET in it as i'll be 32 weeks preggy and i'm not allowed to use it, so urban myth or not, if it worked once i'm hoping it'll work again :D

If you are heading to malarial areas of Turkey you would be much better off using a DEET based product which are perfectly safe to use during pregnancy.

If you are still unhappy to use it, you should really use a product that will work such as Bayer's Autan which uses their proprietry BayRepel repellent.

Hoping Avon So Soft will work isn't such a clever idea.

    Hi cubegame,

no it's not a malarial area of turkey, there are a fair few mozzies there as it is a little fishing town set on a river, but they are not dangerous, just annoying

In my book that i have bee given from the NHS it advises against using anything with DEET in it, unless they just meant the 1st 3 months or so

I usually get bitten by everything going, incuding ants in the garden  i used SSS and didn't get anything apart from the little git that hid in the bedroom and caught me unawares :)

My b/f thoughti was weird and used the local mozzie spray which everyone raved about and still got bit :rotfl:

I am off to Turkey in the summer so have ordered 3 of these for the £6. Used the coupon code for £5 so just had to pay the postage of £2.95 plus £1.00 = 3 for £3.95. Can't be bad considering its £5 a bottle normal price. If it turns out not to be any good for the mossies can use it for everything else in post #8. thanks.

Just got my three - but only one of them works other two don't spray - e-mail to avon called for.
  • If Avon really thought that SSS worked don't you think that is how they would market it? They ARE selling aftersun (and sunlotions) with insect repellant and that DOES work!
  • I get prickly heat and when I went to Goa I could not risk either that or mozzi bites (I come up in huge great weeping lumps if bitten) so I used my prickly heat sun tan lotion (Piz Buin Allergy - absolutely the best) PLUS Mozzi Band elasticated wrist / ankle bands (one on each wrist and ankle, whenever I went outside, day or night). For Aftersun, I used Avon with insect repellent plus I put on the Mozzi Bands when I went out at night because IMHO "that's when they get you". OK, I smelled FOUL for a fortnight but I DID NOT GET BITTEN.

I am an Avon Rep, BTW and I know that some poeple do make these claims for the SSS dry oil spray, but for me this is what worked then, and I would definately use this combination again.

BTW, I always have one of those plug in Mozzi exterminator thingies in my room (the ones you put the tablets in to) no matter where I go - even Costa Blanca, Spain. I know I am a bit anal about it but I have had too many holidays ruined by bites in the past to take any chances.

    HTH, Stella xx

PS - You can get the Mozzi Bands from Milletts or other camping shops (no connection)

well after all everyones helpful comments and getting my sss at the ready i completely forgot to take it with me doh! however the thought of it must have scared them away cos no sign of the dreaded midges on the west coast of Scotland, but maybe that was due to the snow...............
