eg. the impression I get from the name is a 'sport' deodorant type fragrance!/ crossed with the cucumber vaseline body lotion...

I,ve only a small amount of the body spray left but do have some of the bath oil left do you think mixing the 2 will be ok? off to the west highland way on saturday and the temp has risen dramatically (as has the rainfall) and so will the midges. Left it too late to get from avon, but hadn't been too worried until it got warmer!

Please please please please please please DO NOT BUY this product as a mosquito repellent, especially if you are going to a malarial zone.

It is a well known urban legend. See http://www.snopes.com/oldwives/skeeters.asp

Vitamin B is another thing that will NOT protect you.

Anyone who claims to have sucess with these products has simply had the good fortune of a coincidence.

There is more to it than that.

Anything that adds to your protection is a good thing. I have a severe allergy to mosquito bites - and even one bad bite can ruin a holiday. Over the years, I have learned that some things attract them to me (sweet smelling products) and some things repel them from you (ie cintronella). Therefore I have to avoid everything with perfume, including shampoo, soap, body lotion etc.

Body chemistry does make a huge difference, and increasing vitamin b1 for some people helps, as does marmite. Avoiding products like bananas works for individuals like me who can't process blood sugars well, which experts believe is one of the reasons that people like me attract mosquitos.

I know that the avon products will not full protect me from mosquito's, but used in place of products that attract them is a positive, not negative move. I will continue to use deet alongside these products - and if they save me getting just one bite I will be delighted.

I agree with Researcher. My husband has used the Avon product with great success. One year when we were in Spain and he was using another repellant he got 48 bites in the first two days and it completely spoilt our holiday as he was covered in huge lumps all over his body. We have tried just about every product on the market and the best we've found is the Avon one. However if we were going to a malarial zone then we would use a deet product as well.
  • The Avon sunlotion with built-in insect repellant definitely works but careful if you suffer from prickly heat 'cos it's waterproof and therefore blocks the pores. I use it if I'm going where there's a possibility of dengue which is carried by mosquitos which bite during the day.

In the evening I use Avon Aftersun with built-in insect repellant with just a quick spray of something with Deet (I usually buy the local product as it's more effective). Mozzies love to feast on me but they've been out of luck the past few years.
