Latest on ours is a request for a caravan, either 2 or 4 birth(sic) - presumably for twins or quads!

I've been a member of my freecycle for about a year now, give or take a bit, but we've had a couple of caravan's on offer over this time. Both if I can remember needed renovation, but they were snapped up so to speak.

We've also had a few requests for them, but I've never seen a "received" email from the posters funnily enough.

As for moonpixiewitch's post - brilliant, absolutely brilliant!

Oh and the manners thing seems to be a problem thoughout. I've given a few things over my time as a member, and have recieved a couple too. When receiving something I like to take a little gift to say thank you even if it's only a bottle of wine or box of sweeties. I've even received a couple of gifts too, one of my favourites was a hand made bar of soap when I gave a lady a pile of wood off cuts for her wood burning stove. She was just lovely.

What does annoy me thought is when you have replied to and request for something and the person doesn't bother posting a received from you or you have offered something and it's been collected and the same thing happens even if you post a taken. I feel it looks like you are posting fictitional items. I'd be interested to know if anyone else feels like this?

All in all it's a great concept and I've met a lot more lovely people than horrible ones, oh and it's amazing just how local some are to you. I've discovered at least 3 who are within 5 minutes walk of my house.
  • Right...well my responses on this thread have been very polite and diplomatic so far...but...

I'm really disappointed in the slagging moderators are taking on this thread. You do realise that we do it in our spare time, out of the goodness of our hearts and that the majority of us have dayjobs/lives/kids too, don't you? We don't get paid for this and are just trying to give something back to our communities and policing it can be a difficult job, requiring a lot of tact, taking a lot of abuse and trying to strike a delicate balance between ensuring that things are ultimately left off the landfill and that people don't extract the urine, so please, when you're having a pop, do spare a thought for us and the time we give.

    Rant over.
  • Well I have been Freecycling for a while now. I have Offered, Received and posted the odd Wanted item too. Get lots of ignorant and impolite emails asking for things, but I just ignore them. All of the people I have had dealings with have been lovely. I have cleared a lot of my clutter, and in turn received some items which have been really useful to me.

Maybe when I next Offer something, I shall stipulate that only polite emails, stating the reason they would like the item will be considered! Lets see if they can all string a decent sentence together!
If I had a pound for every...... oh sod it, if I just had a pound I'd be richer!
  • I've listed my 6th thing on Freecycle and each and every time the same woman answers! It's getting to the slightly annoying stage, "I can collect immediately.........." with a story tagged on as to why she needs / wants it. The first time it was convenient, but she's either a serial hoarder or a bootseller / Ebayer. I would be much happier if she just said, "I'll sell the crap from your loft on Ebay to make some cash" instead of giving me stories.
Almost debt-free, but certainly even with the Banks!

I love freecycle, and loved the post above requesting an Aston Martin or whatever - at least they were honest about why they wanted it and didn't make a "my dear old mum just had her DB7 stolen from outside the off-licence and she's a bit limited in her mobility and will waste away if she can't get out to buy her daily bottle of Crystal" sort of excuse.

I must admit to posting a request for cars on freecycle before, as I wanted to use them for banger racing. I have had a couple of offers to which has been great. Obviously I am not looking for a high quality motor though!!
All I seem to hear is blah blah blah!
  • I'm just about ready to give up in Freecycle at the moment. after recently sticking up for the rehoming of pets on the site, last week we had a member request a male guinea pig to "keep her females company"!! As well as this, two items I have replied to posts about in the last fortnight, not only have I not recieved a reply, but there has been no "taken" posts etc on the list about them. I know people don't get online every day etc, but it's been almost two weeks these items were offered.

What are you struggling for  put them on freecycle if you want to, if you don't like who asks for them, don't give them away.

If someone is rude or something else on freecycle, then I just ignore them, I don't get upset about it. ;) met a lovely lady today who gave me some stuff from freecycle.
Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.
