And now on freecycle this persons other half has posted a wanted add for a laptop as theres had been stolen from there car..........huh..........you mean the one you sold last week????????????
The sheer cheek of it.
If I were you and you have proof, I'd send an email to the moderator about it."carpe that diem"0 -
I've had my very 1st rude encounter on freecycle, when i advertised a mobile phone.
I have previously given one to someone, after i saw a wanted advert, that one was given to me from my in laws after they upgraded.
However the one i offered today, my OH actually bought for me 4 years ago. Old technology now and i forgot all about it, 02 make, checked ebay 1st, no one is making money off them, which didn't surprise me anyway. So thought id put it on freecycle.
I had loads of emails as you can imagine, but the one that stood out the most, simply read:
'If its in decent condition, then i'll have it'
My 1st thought was, oh will you now, hmmm, no i dont think so. Email deleted. Some people didn't even give a reason for wanting it, just, hi i'll have the phone. Had at least 5 emails, with no please or thank you or even a name.
It shocked me a bit, cos im giving away a mobile phone for christ sake, in my mind, more suited to like a young teenager or parent who needs a mobile and isn't bothered by the brand or age.
Really disappointed about people not seeing this as a 'gift' and appreciate it being offered, more like it was expected to be given to them.
On a better note, got myself a great item off freecycle today. Was chosen to receive a lovely 2 door glass pine unit, its in great condition and looks fab in my lounge. Was really pleased with and sent the people a thank you email after i got it home....Mummy to two girls: October 2013 and February 20160 -
Hmm, after my first major Free cycling experiences today... it's a weird one!
If you'd told me all the rubbish in my hall would be gone this morning... I'd have been thrilled. But after posting on Freecycle today I have had literally hundreds of messages (about 15 items, new and electrical but no good to us) today and actually I don't feel very positive about it.
In my newbie fashion I mostly gave to asked first then got (won't do that again...) and some people have been really slack since their initial Yes please response. I have spent AGES responding Sorry to everyone (despite having put up Taken responses) and only got a couple back - personally I wish I;d said no to all and then given to the nice people wo say thats OK.
Had loads of I'll have it, when can I collect etc etc
Nothing new I know but I am a little bit shocked... if I get anything from there ever I will def be buying the person a bar of chocolate!!! But it's hard to balance whan I know that the purpose was to get rid of it in the first place so I should just be glad it's gone!!!DFW Nerd #1310 -
I have 3 network phones so I always keep a spare just in case my new one every needs to go back for repair...I had a motarola V3x which I had just put 512 of memory in when a friend of mine asked if I had a spare phone I no longer needed I said I only had my spare...now the way I look at it although it was a free phone I had to pay £30 amonth on a 12 month contract so as I wanted it as a space I said no...well the f's and but's were terrible of her...needless to say this person is no longer my friend...and I did need it throughout that year...anyway to cut along story short I looked on ebay when I no longer wanted it as my spare now is a sony erricson W850i they weren't going for much so I put a sign up in the local shop said I wanted a fiver for it...the police came and asked if I had proof of it being mine...but I am sure it was her who did it...now I am going to start with free-cycle and not ask anyone else...the stuff I have to give away was from my mum's house when she dead just over 2 years ago now and to be quite honest at the time I wanted to keep everything cos it was mum's but there come's a time when you have to let go...and plus I can't even move in my bedroom it's so jam packed with stuff...so out with the clutter and hopefully I might even get to decorate the house once I can find the walls again...happy free-cycling everybody...:D

hi
I've read this thread with interest.
I find freecycle a really useful way of offering stuff, and it certainly helps me when I have one of my clear outs ( every few months, yet my house remains astoundingly full!)
NOw, I agree, there are a lot of very rude people, and when I offered a bluetooth headset yesterday, that became clear.
lots of replies, along the lines of.
"do you still have headset? thanks"
"will take this item if still available."
these people can't even be bothered to write a polite reply, and so I do not bother to reply to them. Laziness is so uncalled for when manners cost absolutely nothing, I mean!
Anyway. I have given away quite few things to people (i hope) were very polite, genuine and grateful, and so I will continue to use the forum.
what drives me mad is that it takes hours, sometimes over a day to get things to appear on the site due to the moderators not getting stuff on there. It really slows the whole thing down.
rant over, but I do love freecycle.

I put something on yesterday which is quite a big item of furniture and not cheap (its not in good condition though) and I specified collection only. I had loads of replies, typically rude one liners with bad grammar and text speak saying "i'll take it", "i need it, wen can i come collect it" etc. Anyway, the cheekiest one of all was from some woman who put that she wanted it and "can u deliver it to me?" (she lives about 5 miles away from me). What a bl:mad::mad:dy cheek! It really is so disheartening. I had to trudge through 20 or more messages before I got to one that sounded vaguely polite and decent. Grrrrr:mad:0

This was sent to me by another freecycle moderator and had me rolling round the floor laughing :rotfl:
I own one group and help mod another and every day we have to deal with abusive emails from incensed members who think we should not allow wanted posts at all.
Wanted posts serve a useful purpose in their proper context , they jog your memory about items of nil value that may be lurking in the back of the shed or cupboard . Also some members do not like to offer , they prefer to wait for someone to ask via a wanted for an item they have. If we stop the wanted ads we exclude those people from participating.
That said , there are the mickey takers , but hopefully most people see them for what they are!

I know it’s a long shot, but I’ll never be able to afford any of these cars,so could people check their barns or outbuildings just in case they haveone, that they may’ve forgotten about, preferably with current Tax and MOT.Colour’s not important, but would appreciate a Burgundy ‘Corniche’ with cream hide upholstery,I can collect. Thanks
Yes I know, totally unrealistic, but so have some of the posts on freecycle
been for some time.
Having had a breakdown, and lost everything I had bought and paid for over
the previous 20 years,
I’ve come to realise material possessions are nothing, so if I can’t afford
it I don’t have it, I don’t ask
Somebody else to give it to me.
I stick to what I need, rather than what I’d like, if there’s something I’d
like that becomes available at An opportune time, it’s a bonus. (Try going from £42500 a year, to £4700
overnight, it opens your eyes)
Nobody can honestly say they ‘NEED’ Dishwashers (most people on here are
physically capable of washing up, or have partners, or teenage children, that don’t suffer from Hydrophobia),
Laptops (Desktops are just as good and USB memory sticks are cheap enough), Games Consoles, Leather Furniture,I could go on forever.
Freecycle seems to be becoming ‘GreedCycle’ . Let’s try and stick to the
whole ethos of what Freecycle is,
If you’d ‘like’ something, by all means ‘Request’ it, but don’t show greed,
if you’d like a replacement Sofa,Request a Sofa, if you get a Leather one it’s a bonus, if you’d like aDishwasher ‘Request’ one, in the meantime Buy your son or daughter some rubber gloves, it never did me any harm, butremember manners are free and they go an awful long way in this world, they open a lot of doors.
This isn’t targeting any individual on Freecycle, but I’ve spoken to a lot
of people that offer their surplus Possessions on here, and I believe I speak for the majority.
And finally a polite request, if you offer something, please post a ‘Taken’
message, and also, if people say They are going to collect something – Please Collect It, or phone to say
you’re not going.

There are so many " sob stories" on freecycle lately and also not many please or thank you's. If i get a reply to one of my For offers, if the person thats asking for something doesn't start with a Hello or Is your... still available please, I delet the message, manners cost nothing. Just thought that i would get that off my chest.20p savers club
