hi , i would recommend asking all of the debt collection agencies for the CONSUMER CREDIT Agreement and deeds of assignment . See my post ,,,, Lets alll ask for our CCA,s Lots of these debt collection agencies have purchased these accounts from the orginal lender at a fraction of the outstand balance . And its become clear that many have not got the correct paperwork to enforce these debts good luck

Does it cost anything apart from recorded delivery do you know Stapeley?

I was the same. Say to yourself - several times over.... No-one can help me sort it out unless I open them! No-one can help me sort it out unless I open them!

Just pick a few. Open them. Sort into piles of who they are from and don't look at them yet. Carry on bit by bit - you will get more brave and start to look at some of them too.

Thank you Newly-wed I will do this starting tomorrow night when I get home at a decent hour. Silly thing is, a lot of the letters will be junk too, having signed up to loads of stuff like brochures and freebies through Pigsback and through this site.
Nice thing will be opening a freebie I spose as everything is in my recycle bin!

I would never have had the courage to contact CCCS and even consider a DMP without this website - and more especially the DMP mutual support thread, where everyone on a DMP helpfully answered my questions before I contacted CCCS ;)

Best thing I did was contact CCCS. Wish I'd done it months and months earlier ;)

Also, if you are considering a DMP - Payplan want to talk on the phone and go through all the figures. CCCS will let you type it all into their website and if they suggest a DMP they will let you sign up all online - no talking unless there's a query ;)

You can request a copy of a CCA at any time. I'd argue morally that if you take out a debt, you should pay it back. Likewise i suppose you can argue back that you are within your rights not to if they cannot prove the debt. I would point out though that not all debts require a CCA, such as overdrafts (there are others).

  • Hi Gettinghelp,

I just wanted to say, well done on starting to get it all sorted. Maybe something else to remember, at the end of the day however threatening these letters may seem, at the end of the day they are only pieces of paper. If you open one too many and you feel upset, fold them away in a box and hide it under the bed for a couple of hours or so.

As others have said, this is the worst bit and it will get easier!

It only costs £1 , please read some of the other post for the proceedure . If contacted by phone never comfirm or supply details , tell them to only contact you by letter ! Also do not sign your name .These collection agencies are trained to get blood out of stone. My objection to DCA,S is that they often purchase your account for 10p in the pound .

    good luck
