I was the same but once you open them and work out a DMP you'll feel so much better0

Yep, open them!!!
You're doing the right thing going to CCCS and you've started the road to recovery. You need to give them the full picture to let them help.
Open the letters, take them with you and CCCS will help. Its a long road and it won't be easy but it will get better over time. I've helped two people set-up DMP's and after 6 months the letters and calls have stopped, its worth it in the end.0 -
My words of encouragement.....you have made a good start in admitting you want help and by finding this site. It has changed my whole outlook on money and I now find it exciting with every penny I save. Keep logging in and see what else you can do to get up there in the black. I WILL get there too! Do it, you will actually feel better for it! I know that sounds strange but you will then know exactly where everything is and you will feel more in control.

been there...once you're on the right path though you almost look forward to them to make sure they don't throw anything at you that you're not ready for - regaining some semblance of control was so important for me...if you don't open them you're surrendering control and I've not seen many problems fix themselves! For what I've done...I start again...And whatever pain may come ...Today this ends... I'm forgiving what I've done -AF since June 20070

First of all, well done on facing the challenge. It's tough to get started and walk into the unknown, but every journey starts with a single step. You've started - that means you're going to stop being in debt. CCCS and possibly this board will supply you with both the tools and support to see it through.
It took years to build up your debt and will probably take a long time to get rid of it too. You do not need to look at your debt as one big monster, but can cut it down into managable pieces. The only thing stopping you from doing that right now are those letters.
Start with the easier part - income. List any salary and benefits you are getting and total it all up. Next, list your household expenditure - the link below shows a sample of the type of thing you should be including. Then gather up all your paperwork and start on those letters. Take a deep breathe and just get stuck in - you are 2/3 of the way there already. Don't forget to list the APR, minimum repayments and limits.

Feel free to post it up here and we'll try to advise and encourage you through this. Don't even think about managing it all in one go - just know that there is a solution. It may be hard and it may take time, but you will get through this.
good luck

You are absolutely not the only one!
I always find the best thing is suck it up and open them all! I know things are bad but you will never be able to face it properly until you have those cold hard numbers in front of you. Then you can work it through
I have put myself in the same position a few times, and sometimes you are lucky and things aren't as awful as you think. Good luck, and remember there are always loads of people on here for support we have all been there :rolleyes:0 -

You are talking about me at the moment - I have a recycling box full of unopened letters.
I really have to sit and open them but I'm so, so scared

....I don't want to go home at the moment either.
I'm as paranoid as hell too - last night there was a car with a fella sitting outside my house talking on a phone and I didn't go into my house until he'd driven off. Rational me says you stupid cow you are daft but ....
Thing is it sounds silly but in the Summer I got good and started tackling the unopened post with a determination to number-crunch and then go on a DMP - then one of my so-called neighbours put a poison pen letter through my door.
I had a nervous breakdown because of the bile and accusations that were in that letter - what I was accused of wasn't true at all but it was horrible.
Saying I left my cat for days on end - I didn't I work odd hours - I see, love and look after her everyday - and that my dog was locked in my house all day (she wasn't, she died in my arms at the end of July, that's why they never saw her out and about as they once did).
Perhaps we should start a support thread and hold each others hands...say post everyday with a running total of how many letters you've opened.
Say open two or half-a-dozen and gradually increase it day by day..
What do you all think? Handholding DFW style because I certainly need it although with a `borrowed' recycling bin c/o a London council I'll be opening them till 2010!!

hi , i would recommend asking all of the debt collection agencies for the CONSUMER CREDIT Agreement and deeds of assignment . See my post ,,,, Lets alll ask for our CCA,s Lots of these debt collection agencies have purchased these accounts from the orginal lender at a fraction of the outstand balance . And its become clear that many have not got the correct paperwork to enforce these debts good luck0
