What's the deal?

January's the traditional time for sales but it's not just the usual shops offering them. Rail companies are also getting in on the act with several offers currently on depending on where you live
  • Free return ticket on c2c

If you're over 18 and live in Essex or London then it's possible to get a free return ticket to use anywhere on the c2c network, which includes the line between Southend/Tilbury/Shoeburyness and Fenchurch Street. So if you're planning on heading into London for some sale shopping then take advantage! The offer ends 29 Feb and you must travel by 31 May. If you're unsure if you're near an applicable station have a look at the c2c network map. Full Details in the Original Thread: c2c free offpeak return ticket
  • London-Manchester Train Fares From £1

Virgin Trains are selling dirt cheap tickets from London Euston to Manchester. The caveat is you need to print your tickets at home, but do this and you can grab fares from as little as £1 each way. You can book up to 15 February 2008 at the moment, though this may well be extended. Full Details in the Original Thread: Virgin Trains £1 Fares
  • 25% off Transpennine Express Advance Single tickets

For those living in the North, around Manchester, York or Liverpool, Transpennine Express is offering 25% off its Advance Purchase single tickets throughout January. You need to book your ticket by 31 January and you must be travelling before 29 February. If you're unsure if you're near the Transpennine route take a look at the Transpennine network map Full Details in the Original Thread: 25% off Transpennine advance singles
  • Half price train travel in Devon and Cornwall

  • New rail operator serving Yorkshire/London

Finally, if you live in or around Yorkshire and travel to London then it may be worth checking new rail operator Grand Central to see how fares compare with other operators. While it's new and doesn't have a large number of trains children and senior citizens get 50% off, as do ordinary passengers if you get on the train with a Grand Central ticket but don't get a seat. Are you sure you have to live in Essex or London? Can't see that on a quick scan of the T&C and it would be useful to me as a one-off despite living miles away.

Wait and see if they send me one I suppose.......

    Hi,

What about megatrain as well- they are pretty good if you aren't limited to a time?

They have just increased the areas they serve as well.

Green and minimal chemicals is the new black- I know a fair old bit about sustainability, specially energy and transport stuff. If I can help- please ask!

    Yeah..whatever
  • Grand Central runs from Sunderland and goes through Durham and Teesside before Yorkshire. Very handy for those who don't want to travel to Newcastle for a train to London.

And reduced them as well - some new routes, some old ones gone. Usually pretty easy to get tickets, I found - they were too little known.
