We washed our bedroom curtains last month, and they came up fine - tumble dried them after and gave them a quick iron.
We do the same with the net curtains as well (they are not weighted nets).

Mine's a tale of caution I had cream bedroom curtains that also said dry clean I washed them on a hand wash cycle , they didn't shrink but I never got the creases out they were just creased and ruined I hung them damp eventually after many tries with the iron but couldn't stand the sight of them looking like a limp dish rag and had to throw them in the end.. I hope yours turn out ok..

I was looking for some fabric to cut up recently, and came across an old pair of curtains that I decided to re-use as a door curtain.

They weren't very clean, so I took them into the dry cleaners, who refused to do them on the grounds that the thermal lining was bonded to the velvet and might crack.

So...with nothing to lose I flung them in the machine. Then after they came out clean, I ran them again with some Dylon (they were a very Eighties shade of red before).

    They look great :)

One additional tip, re-hang them when they are still wet to dry at room temperature, all the creases come out, just put towels on the floor underneath and keep them closed. A bonus of this is that your room smells lovely and fresh.

Is there any way to get them out?Just discovered one on a pair of living room curtains that I was planning to sell when I move (don't want to just chuck £100+ pair of curtains!!!)...just typical :D

ive merged this with our thread on washing curtains as opposed to getting them dry cleaned, as they would be your two main options

    Hi,

I'm moving into a new flat with high ceilings and just trying to figure out how I should get the curtains cleaned which are probably about 10 ft high and will be a pain to take down. I've read about Steam cleaning services so you dont have to take the curtains down and professionals come and do that. Is that better than dry cleaning? Anyone know?

    Thanks!
    John.

I was always wondering if I can just wash my bedroom curtains... they say dry clean only, they are from Dunelm Mill sale but I've never seen why could I not wash them... I think following reading this thread I am just going to try it, and if it goes to hell I will just have to buy a new curtains...

    Hi
I have some curtains from Dunelm too. They have been hanging at the patio door and where the dogs go in and out they were grubby and had a bit of mould on. I took them to the dry cleaners and they said it would be £35, might not be clean afterwards, the metal eyelets could fall out or go rusty, would I still like them done?...........they are going in the washing machine tomorrow.
