Be aware all virgin customers
To all virgin media customers
Anyway, my grievance is about Virgin selling of its email platform to an outside company called 'Junara" which is owned by somebody called Atmail. An Australian company. They are saying if Virgin customers want to retain their Virgin email addresses they will be invited to transfer over to Junara where it will be FREE for one year, (which it turns out it isn't because one has to pay 99p as a transfer fee). Thereafter one will have to pay Junara to keep their virgin email address. And although Virgin have NOT said how much it will be after the first year, word is out it could be in the region of £68 per year to keep it. As someone who has just signed a 2 year contract with them I am livid. I have seen from the comments on social media that I am not the only one that feels this way and scores of people are threatening to leave. Surely this can't be legal? Is there any point complaining to Ofcom? Has Martin brought this up in any of his programmes?
Does anyone else think this is outrageous????

You've signed a 2 year contract for an email address? Or a 2 year contract for something else which included an email address? What does your contract say about provision of an email address- if this is a significant change you will be able to leave without penalty.

The OP might find this thread worth a read:

Relying on an ISP for an email account is never a good idea as you are now finding out.
However there is no legal requirement for VM to keep providing email, the writing has been on the wall for a couple of years since they stopped providing new email accounts.
There is a Facebook group that has lots of discussion on how to move your account(s) over.

Relying on an ISP provided email never ends well. There are many free independent email providers that means you never have to worry about changing ISP again.

So get a new email from Gmail/Yahoo/Outlook and use that, and pull in anything you want to keep from your Virgin mail while you can.
Ofcom have this to say: https://www.ofcom.org.uk/phones-and-broadband/switching-provider/email-addressAre we sure the issue here is more about not wanting to effectively start again with a new email as opposed to staying with the Virgin offering because it happens to be easier?

I’m going to close this thread as I think discussion is best kept to the longer thread already mentioned above.
