Jet2 do charge for allocated seats.

We do not pay on Jet2 or TUI but that is because my wife gets assistance for travel so they allocate seats on booking ,yes we might be last on and last off but it saves us money ( she would rather not need assistance )

I'm pretty sure every time I've flown on an airline paying their most basic fare (with BA it's the hand-luggage only fare) I've had to pay to pick a seat.
Ryanair however, are the only airline I've flown with to 'deliberately' seperate people travelling together (unless you pay and excepting blind luck). That is Ryanair's tactic to encourage a paid seat selection.
Regular Ryanair users know the deal though and there are usually plenty of couples bidding farewell to each other at the bottom of the stairs to be reunited at their destination. Done it plenty of times myself. Neither myself or my partner have yet been prepared to pay £9 to sit with the other.

Anything that is free is payed for in one way or another. I could use the term no cost to you. The profit of Jet2 will factor everything and is paid for by their customers. In the case of airport assistance again not free this is paid for by the airports customers/ clients. I have no problem with this but it is not magically free to employ somebody to assist at an airport.

Leg room on BA London to Rome last week was incredibly limited. I flew with Norwegian London to Oslo a few weeks ago, which is a more budget carrier, and had a lot more leg room.
I'm around 5'7 and my knees touched the seat in front on BA.

Surely the point was simply that emergency exit rows (or unusually spacious other ones) will typically attract premium pricing, rather than digressing into a wider discussion about seat pitch across airlines?

You don't get free seat selection on a Jet2 package holiday.
You get free seat allocation.
You don't get to pick your seats unless you pay.

My wife and I always sit apart and pick seats to achieve that.

My wife doesn't want to risk us being allocated seats together on a flight, so pays for us to sit apart.

Once flew Business on business to Rome, OH was in the cheap seats (on our own dollar).
I'd asked at check-in if it would be possible to upgrade my partner - they said it wasn't but I could downgrade to sit with my OH.
Worst decision I made that decade.
