Ryanair

Just to add, if you haven't flown for a while then make sure you follow the Ryanair guidance on bag sizes to the absolute letter. They aren't alone in enforcing sizing, but perhaps they are more likely to check everyone rather than just go by sight like some other airlines do. Measure cabin bags to the MM, don't exclude trimming, wheels or the tips of a handle, they must all fit within the stated size. Also don't go by the shops telling you 'it's cabin sized' as I notice a lot of the so called cabin size cases are too big for Ryanair.

I don't think that this is a Ryanair and EasyJet thing at all - choosing seats (with entry-level economy tickets) is a chargeable extra with most airlines, including Jet2, Tui and even the likes of BA…
Think that the no-charge thing on Jet2 might be because my only use of them has been as part of a package holiday, so maybe the policy is different?

I was on a Jet2 package a few weeks ago and had to pay extra for seat choice.

Always enjoy how people spend thousands on a holiday and then gripe an allocated seat is a tenner or so, probably think nothing about spending £7 for a pint in Wetherspoons at the airport too (yes, its not £2 a pint in the airport ones, so better give you that hammer blow now also)

The OP seems to have had the surprise when checking in, so they may have already gone.

You get free seat selection if you have a Jet2 holiday, but if you book just the flighs there is a charge.
The trick is to check in online as soon as online check in opens (30 days before departure for Jet2). We always get sat together that way as most of the seats are unallocated then, (plus, being 3 of us and 3 seats either side of the isle it would be pretty silly to try and mess us about!
As part of our upcoming trip we booked a 3 night stay in a suite at a hotel, it mentioned that we could pick the specific suite after booking… and it turns out we can… for a £85 charge! They can get lost with that as well! 😁

I have a Jet2 package holiday booked for next Summer, I have the option of either paying - starting from £14 each way to pick my seat or having my seat automatically selected when I check in. For our holiday it would cost a minimum £84 to sit together.
Last year (TUI) for 5 of us we would have paid £200 to sit together - our seats were allocated together as it was so it would have been a waste of £200.
I can't see it being very MSE to book seats together, certainly not when flying within Europe.
That said, my Husband and I are planning on flying long haul in 2028, if we end up flying economy then I will book seats for the extra leg room as a compromise

Nothing is free in this world….Jet2 is free somebody said, well of course the cost is included within the holiday. . I am just hoping the O.P. does not expect a free drinks service on board the plane……Bullied is a ridiculous term to use in relation to paying for a particular seat on a plane.
