Octopus Intelligent Go exceeded requesting charge target

I don't think Octopus place any limitations on the energy that you can use during happy hours. The only limitation is the capacity of your main fuse. Since mine was upgraded to 100A (from 60A) this effectively meant that I can charge the EV at the maximum rate at any time, regardless of whatever other appliances I was running. For example I was charging at a rate of 7.4kW during the last happy hour.

Octopus have definitely said there's a 16kWh limit on any particular Happy Hour.

The hour is free whatever you use it for. If the car is then full, the rest of the day will be peak rate. However, if you plug the car in afterwards, there's a good chance that at least some of the remaining day for house and car will be at cheap rate.

As home EV chargers have a maximum charge rate of about 7.5kW, this means that you couldn't consume more than 7.5tkWh during an hour of charging anyway. That would still leave enough capacity to use an electric shower, boil the kettle and run the washing machine at the same time, if you wanted to. In reality you would probably exceed the capacity of your main fuse before you hit Octopus's 16tkWh limit.

Assuming an 80A main fuse, that's rated at 18.4kW at 230v AC. They are slow blow fuses so you could probably draw 100A for an hour (23kWh) and not blow the fuse (although I would not recommend you try), hence there is no question that it is possible to exceed the Octopus 16kWh limit for their free electricity happy hours without blowing your main fuse.
Even a 60A fuse should be able to withstand 16kW for one hour.
