The secure folder is not something I've really looked into. To be truly useful, I'd have to have plausible deniability that a secure folder exists on my device, meaning there should be no trace of it when I unlock my phone normally, and it would only be visible/accessible if I entered a secondary device password on the unlock screen. A bit like a hidden Truecrypt/Veracrypt volume.

Once Samsungs secure folder has been created you can disguise it by customising the folder to give it a completely different name of your choosing and frivolous looking icon masking its purpose.

lived in a large house in a posh part of Solihull and the thieves stole some Rolex watches. Probably had a couple of flash cars outside as well, so generally drawing attention of the wrong sort of person.

Yep, having a Casio, 18 year old banger on the drive and dressed like a hobo should see me through. It's funny when people judge on these factors but beneficial in these circumstances!

Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

I generally just use financial apps for day to day stuff with low or no balances. The only notable exception is my Dodl Lisa which is app only so I might look into that secure folder. That is, until I move it to AJ Bell eventually so then ill have no reason to access that on an app either.

All my financial apps live on an iPad that never leaves the house. I'd rather not have any apps at all and just use a web browser on the PC but that is not really viable for many accounts now.

But some people are so careless with their info. A few months ago a woman in front of me in the supermarket queue unlocked her phone with a clearly-visible PIN, browsed her bank account in plain view then put the still unlocked phone in the back pocket of her jeans when she reached the checkout.

I don't have any investment apps on my phone. I do have banking apps to pay bills, but the phone and the apps all need Face ID and I am always careful to log out of accounts when I'm done.

And so we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.

I avoid apps for the accounts I need less frequent access to (eg regular savers), and split my other apps between my normal space and my private space. My rationale being that hopefully there would be enough visible apps that one could assume those were my only accounts. Annoyingly HSBC have recently blocked you being able to use their app in the private space which has forced me to make it a visible app.

Interesting thread - I have two banks/three credit card apps/three pension apps and an ISA on my phone. My primary thought is alwqys not to let my children know what's on it. If I got threatened I'd be so nervous I couldn't remember a single password. I'd have to transfer it to them, then when the last screen says enter password I'd have to start again at forgotten password however, I have even been known to do this to make a payment and then forget the new password within the ten minutes it takes to do the transaction again !

I go so far as to have all my apps security protected on my phone and a secure folder on my tablet so nobody who got access to my open device could open any of my apps but any serious amounts of money couldn’t be immediately accessed if someone broke in and made me unlock financial apps.

There is pressure from banks to have us install their apps. I see no advantage in them for me. One day it may be a requirement but until then I will resist!
