How do I choose a new mattress?

I always liked the Premier inn mattresses, but I'm pretty sure last time we stayed in one they'd either changed the brand or model but they were selling them online at one point - not sure if they still do.
If I was going to throw more money at a mattresses I'd go for a Mattermoll, they use them on cruise ships and I had some fantastic nights sleep whilst on a cruise.

They used to be Hypnos and now they are Silentnight, both are fine. I had one delivered last year, everything was good except for the delivery which went wrong in so many ways.

given the amount of time you spend in your bed, getting a comfortable bed is money well spent. Value and cheap are not the same thing😁

My youngest daughter used to work for Jensen beds, and occasionally was offered ex demo ones at really cheap prices. My eldest daughter bought one and said it was the best bed she'd ever had.
When Melinda Messenger was in town doing the Cowboy builders programme they rang up to get a free bed for the house. They told her that all the beds are made to order in Norway, but might have an old single ex demo down stairs. The TV company told them that to give them all this free publicity, Melinda and the producer needed a free top of the range bed each that retail for about 30 grand in Harrods each. They were told there was no way that they were getting the beds. I reckon Melinda and co were getting loads of free kitchens etc for her property developer husband at the time.

Like many others I have enjoyed a good nights sleep in that hotel groups rooms, apart from the comfy bed I put it down to there being very good blackout / noise suppressing curtains in all their rooms.
OP if you are looking to improve your sleep quality get some good blackout curtains along with a new mattress.

Last 2 beds I have had were slatted base, current one is the deep type with a huge headboard and the mattresses I get sink a lot now (to be fair I am a large gentleman) a cheap one barely lasted about 6 weeks before having a huge dent in it..
This time I went for a slightly dearer one that has a small dent but very sore on my back in the middle unless I put pillows between the slats and mattress.

Their used on your mid tier cruise liners whereas the likes of Silversea, Regent Seven Seas and Uniworld use things like Hastens, Flou Leonardo and Savoir but like Matermoll they all have a strong made to order service as many cruises dont use standard sized beds plus have other fire regs to consider etc.
Getting a good night sleep somewhere can be a number of factors, certainly blackout curtains help a lot. In the most recent trip had a good nights sleep but woke up with a stiff back because the matress was far too soft for my taste/weight. The sleep was more down to the blinds and the amount of walking done the day before -v- my normal sitting at a desk

I have slept in more hotels than I care to think about, and hardly ever noticed the mattress at all. I was always much more concerned about the pillows ( and it if was noisy or not).

Agreed, the first cruise I went on we had an inside room and I'm sure the darkness of no window played a part in how well I slept. Both cruises gave us plenty of fresh air, we also didn't use the lifts so a few factors contributing to a good night sleep

Best not to think too much about dried cerumen when you are away from home.
