i was not aware it was the brakes, it sounded and i commented that it was like a wheel bearing issue. this was dismissed by the dealer as regen.

    You accepted "a noise".

Are the brakes working, as in they stop the car, and if you press harder, it decelerates at a greater rate? Doesn't pull to one side or the other? Not that it matters, the trader can point to the MoT test and say they are good.

There appear to be a mix of facts and a number of assumptions you made about the dealer and the car. Goods need to be "as described" but dealers can (and do) lie to get a sale over the line. It looks like he was put on the spot, lied to you to dissipate an unusual noise which while undesirable, isn't a "fault" because the brakes still work, and you bought it.

I would re-focus on the other "faults" such as the SOS function (I am assuming the rear wiper now works).

the SOS fault has been fixed. the small dent on the rear bumper has been poorly painted with what seems to be a ratle can job, but i can live with it, its not on the sale pics which makes me think it was done when moving it around the dealers site. the rear drum issue i didnt know about until i went on a run in the car as it doesnt appear on the short work runs we do. the brakes work, but as been noted have a longer travel time than normal due to them being glazed, again i didnt say to the dealer the brakes need repairing on the test drive as it wasnt clear what was causing the noise. i did say it has a slight roaring noise from the front drivers side. when we picked it up and drove home noise still there, so asked MV tutor at work to check it, found bad disc.

what i suspect will likely happen in April next year when it wants an MOT it will fail on insufficient braking power or bad discs.

"on the short work runs we do"…? Has this vehicle been bought for business purposes?

"found bad disc" in what way?

Glaze is just a build-up of pad material and rust on the surface, because they've not been used hard enough to abrade that off.

my missus drives to and from work 10 miles total a day.

when the wheel is rotated it scrapes in two places.

weve tried advice from other EV owners and tried braking hard to clean it off it doesnt help.

If your approach to maintenance is to allow something potentially dangerous to develop into a dangerous fault before its "caught" by the annual MoT, rather than keep on top of maintenance, it does somewhat point towards a minimalistic approach.

It sounds like your discs are glazed, and possibly the backing plates are rusty or misshapen allowing contact and noises. It will still have some braking performance, probably enough for an MoT, but you can't unglaze discs. Unlike other EVs, the ID3 DOESN'T have a program to automatically occasionally use the brakes, thus keeping their surfaces cleaned up. So it sounds completely plausible that the previous owner allowed them to get glazed.

I would draw a line under the car purchase, accept that you got lied to by a car dealer (you won't be the last) and spend the required amount on sorting the brakes of your wife's car.

The disc scraping is probably a build up of scale on the lip.

Jack the car up and take the rim off. AXLE STAND.
Rotate the disc, tapping the rim with a hammer to break that scale away. SAFETY GLASSES.
It'll come easily. Nice satisfying 10min job.

Quite why the "VW specialist" didn't do this while they were writing the report is another question entirely.

The noise could be something simple. We've not heard the noise, and it seems you haven't taken it to another garage, just tried to deal with the original dealership.
