In case you were not aware, when you drop BT as your broadband provider you do not have to lose your btinternet email addresses.

You can opt to keep your BT emails by paying £7.70/month for "BT Premium Mail"and everything will work as it did when you had BT broadband.

BT also have a free basic email service offered to BT broadband clients who are leaving BT called "BT Basic Mail". The downside with BT Basic Mail is that you can only use a browser to view/send/receive mail (you cannot use emails clients/apps such as Outlook or Thunderbird.)

My plan is to ditch BT and use Gmail but to keep an eye on my btinternet email inbox via the free service for those organisations that didn't get the message that I was now on Gmail.

If you have a look at the BT customer forum you can see others thinking of doing the same…..

Google are rolling out a way to use a 2nd @gmail.com address and have email to both addresses land in the same inbox. AFAIK only in the USA at the moment.

One of the advantages of being an early adopter of these new-fangled email things - I have both my real FirstName_LastName@hotmail.com (and .co.uk) and FirstName.LastName@gmail.com, despite the names not being that uncommon.

    I'm sure it'll be useful for something….

Pretty easy to implement anyways with a simple rule.

@GrahamLM52 - yes I was aware of that option but I don't want to move to a cheaper broadband option & then have to pay to get emails on my desktop PC via Outlook, which I am very comfortable with. Thanks for your input - threads like this become very useful for anyone else looking for options.

I have now got a version of my nickname which I like. I like short names. Looks like I will end up with 4 gmails which means I can separate out my important stuff, my niche stuff, my online shopping & general dross. Happy for things to arrive into distinct inboxes so I can deal with each category.
