Is there a dashcam/tracker I can fit myself?

Hi all

Bit of a story here but I am looking for a decent dashcam/tracker combined unit.

Basically? Our company has a driver who of late has been taking the mickey. I won’t go into detail but it is fair to say that he goes missing for a few hours most days and leaves the deliveries to the other driver. We need the evidence to confront him. The van is a brand new, 26 Reg, Citroen Relay. In our 3 company cars we have Nextbase 522’s which we love, but they don’t have the tracker feature. I know we can use a tracking company and indeed we contacted RAM tracking who gave us a price. However, when I reviewed the small print there was £120 admin charge on it. I questioned the admin charge and then they said they would take it off as long as I pay today and they then proceeded to torment me every day for seven days paying now paying now pay now. Something didn’t sit right with me so I certainly don’t want to use that company. Then it struck me why don’t I just buy a dash cam that doubles as a tracker? If this sort of thing exists? I realise there might be a subscription to pay which is okay. Any ideas folks? Oh, I should’ve said I am not fitting it myself. We have a professional auto Electric company that fits our dash cam so we will use them to fit the unit.

With all respect I am not looking for any advice on how to deal with the driver. I am just looking technical advice on the camera.

thanks in advance all.

Is he provided with a company phone? If so just turn on location tracking for "driver safety" reasons.

Stuff an Airtag behind a bit of trim somewhere?

We had something similar at work and all company phones had a tracking app added. Whilst the drivers can't prevent you from doing this, you do have a legal obligation to advise them its happening.

Leaves deliveries to driver 2? 2 drivers in a vehicle? Don't you load the items onto a vehicle with
the delivery sheet with weights etc?

If there are 2 drivers per vehicle then how will tracking show when each driver is at a location? Just shows
when the vehicle was at that location not if more than one person is inside it.

Dashcams showing interior as well as the exterior could work but you would need to watch the video each time.

There are 2 separate vans. They both deliver separately. However, of late Driver 1 has been taking the **** which means the other van workload is greater.

With regard to an AirTag don’t they beep?

We tried to provide him with a company phone but he’s not tech savvy at all so just uses his own android phone for which we pay the tiny bill each month. He hardly uses his own phone.

I've got a Nextbase 422 and it records your location if you turn that option on. I'm surprised your 522 doesn't do this.

If you want a standalone tracker, there are lots of options.

How about this? (Just a search result, not a specific recommendation.)

Puzzled who loads the vans and do you not have run sheets with each delivery on it?

Who owns the vehicles? Who controls what goes onto each vehicle?

It’s only a small firm so both drivers load their own and they are trusted to do their deliveries and come back for the next one and so on. However, the driver in question always seems to have been stuck in traffic and amazingly just gets back at every break time. We just need the evidence to confront him.

Air tags have an anti stalking feature so will start beeping after 8 hours of separated from the phone
