Can someone please confirm if I need a Visa/ETA

Hubby is going to France with a mate on a fishing holiday next week. He is flying with Ryanair.

They checked in and downloaded boarding passes. However today there is a banner on the Ryanair website saying 'Your flight to the UK requires an approved ETA/Visa'

On another part of the site and a Gov UK it says a visa is not required, they went a few months ago and didn't need the Visa but I know the rules are changing.

Can someone confirm if they need it or not. Im saying because the Ryanair site states they do then they should apply but his mate is arguing Im wrong.

This all sounds wrong.

Are both your husband and his mate UK citizens travelling on UK passports?

Do these passports have plenty of validity left?

If yes to both the above then any talk of needing visas to enter back into the UK is a mistake.

Are you sure that's the actual Ryanair website, not some lookalike that's trying to get your money by flogging you something that doesn't exist?

They are both travelling on UK passports with more than enough validity left.

It is def the genuine Ryanair website. Its on the page when I look at 'Manage your booking'. There is a pink banner across the top and this is the actual wording copied and pasted-

Your flight to the UK requires an approved ETA or eVisa. Without a valid ETA or eVisa, you will not be permitted to travel. Please ensure you have obtained your ETA before attempting to check-in. All eVisa holders should ensure their details are up to date.

Just to add, they have both checked in for the outward and return journey and there was nothing about needing a visa for the return when they did that.

It says that for everyone and its highly confusing, it doesnt apply for British people with British passports coming back into their own country.

Why on earth would you think they would need a visa or an ETA to come back to the UK lol, if they are British?

Just sounds like a glitch on the Ryanair website, it's clearly wrong to suggest that a UK citizen travelling on a UK passport needs an ETA/visa to enter the UK.

Exactly, this is what I read when I say the Ryanair site has contradictory information. Its on the 'Manage my Booking' page where it states you need a visa for the return journey. Its on a big pink banner on the booking page. Must be a glitch.

Its not a glitch, they just cant manage the programming to determine who does and doesn't need a visa or eta (and it may not be possible with the info they have) so they just show it for everyone. Its been like that since the ETA was introduced.
